Mercedes want a German driver to win with them and they know they are not going to be top dog for much longer, probably. They know Rosberg is not good enough to beat Hamilton, so that leaves two choices; get rid of Hamilton, or get rid of Rosberg and replace with a German who can beat him.
and that's one tough call....leglessAlex said:

You need to broaden what you read about F1

Reporter A might sit in his bedroom searching the net and hypothesising; reporter B goes to every GP and speaks to the movers and shakers and has an address book and so can call people in the know from time to time.
It is how journalism used to work before the Internet.
I didn't know about that blog, thank you very much John! https://joesaward.wordpress.com/2016/02/10/manor-l...

I've had a read of a few articles already, it seems really good, no nonsense kind of style.

And where is that driver? No one has ever suggested Vettel would consistently beat Hamilton. Although one may imagine they would both more equally matched than Hamilton & Rosberg meaning they would simply steal points from each other. Speed Badger said:

Who says that they do?Speed Badger said:

Why do people always trot out the "Mercedes want a German driver to win with them" line. I am fairly sure the majority of its sales come from countries other than Germany so from a marketing PoV it is not important that the driver is German. It is much more important that they can win and Hamilton's profile as a celeb' outside of F1 can't do his case any harm again from a marketing PoV.Speed Badger said:

Who says they want a German driver to win? Historically they've always just wanted the best drivers regardless of nationality. From a manufacturer's perspective it's the car that wins, not the driver.BigBen said:

That's my view. They just want to win.Look at the most loved Ferrari drivers - Schumacher and Mansell? Italians didn't care. They wanted a fantastic driver winning in a beautiful Ferrari. Both are spoken of very fondly in Italy.

...but you claim that no one had told you. Joe chooses his words carefully, but he was quite emphatic why he thought Lewis would have a new partner in 2017, only recently telling us that where he uses the term 'I hear" that really means "he was told by someone who knows."
I was being sarcastic! The poster stated the wherlein news even though it was already posted above!Speed Badger said:

Firstly, Mercedes are a global brand. Xenophobia is not part of their make-up. Secondly, from what I saw of Wehrlein, he is no Max Verstappen, if they want to swap out Rosberg, they ought to go for Verstappen.Smollet said:

I reckon he'll replace Kimi at Ferrari in 2017Speed Badger said:

If they really wanted a German driver to win for them then they wouldn't have renewed Hamilton's contract. They have all the data, they know Rosberg's quick enough in the car but they also know he can't beat Lewis. I think Rosberg winning at home is enough for their patriotism and they'd rather just have the best available drivers to win the WDC and WCC for them, regardless of nationality. rdjohn said:

Whilst reporter C runs some form of organisation selling pictures?https://joesaward.wordpress.com/2016/02/10/manor-l...

I reckon he'll replace Kimi at Ferrari in 2017other 2017 predictions (it's a bit early, I know):
Verstappen at Red Bull.
Wherlein at Merc.
Stoff at McLaren.
Button at Williams.

I'd love to know what his contract length is. His old man is a smart cookie so I'd be surprised if it's anything more than a 2 plus 1 with performance options on both sides.I think both Mercedes and Ferrari will throw their hats in the ring for him and the decision will be made on future performance, not the depth of Mateschitz's pockets...
