Hmmm - can't see why he'd want to go to McLaren

Unless he's just interested in the money
Well IF he is out at Ferrari then he has few options... McLaren need experience and he is a WDC which is key for sponsors. I can think of worse ideas to replace Alonso.

But then I'd release Alonso and Vandoorne and promote Lando Norris. Kimi would be a good balance?
I think this is about as good as McLaren can hope for. I assume that Kimi isn't bored as he's still here, he might be happy with Button wages and gets to live on comfortably in F1. IIRC, Alesi and Berger both did similar slumming their later years in Bennetons and the like. It might not be better than Ferrari, but there's plenty of time left to not be an F1 driver.

We can but hope the expected number 2 thing doesn’t ruin a quick young driver before he even gets started

If anything; I can see Vettel being very upset by the new boy... a la Hamilton on Alonso back ‘07.

For once I’ll be watching the Ferrari pairing very closely.

As much as I want to see fresh blood, I think it’d be good to have Kimi at Mclaren- Alonso is wasted in that car but Kimi is a good character for the sport IMO and I think he’d make Vandoorne look a lot less average.

“Has-been” driver, joins “has-been” team?

There are just too many good young drivers for this to become a reality, with only 20-seats available. I doubt Kimi is good at pleasing sponsors / hangers-on.

He is apparently fine at sponsor events. Dry, funny, witty by accounts I have heard. it's just the mass press he disengages with?

Let's face it, phrases like "Leave me alone, I know what I'm doing" are remembered for years. What was the last memorable phrase by other drivers? I recall this one, and "Monaco baby, yeah" from Button.

I can relate because I kind of hate the mass press too.

They were really interrogating him on his future in the pre-Austria press conference and he took great pleasure in giving them nothing and telling them they’ll make their own st up anyway- but he was pretty funny with it.

P.S. Vettel was pretty good for memorable radio sound bites until he calmed down for this year. Kvyat crashing into him twice in Russia prompted one of my favourite rants. Also Webber had some good ones- “Britney’s in the wall” being one of my favourites. Also Webber- “first lap nutcase”- Grosjean, 2012? Nothing changes.

I’ve just realised Hamilton isn’t funny in the slightest!

I’d disagree with that last sentence, the massively auto turned version of his voice singing on the Christina Aguilera song is hilarious hehe

C4 saying Leclerc to Ferrari is a done deal, two year contract for 2019/20, apparently told by two 'reliable sources'.
