The present refusal to revert is, I feel, most likely down to a few factors:

- Politics
- Ego
- Licking the a** of someone 'important'... Perhaps someone who they need some backing from suggested it.

Teams, drivers, fans, however many millions of people have an interest all pale in comparison to the ego of a couple of billionaires. Admitting "We're complete clots, we got it wrong, let's go back to the old way" will come when it's imperative and no sooner.

Cynical yes, but it seems that nothing that F1 has done in recent years has been in the best interests of fans, drivers or teams.

Except that without the fans, they have no sport.

But with sponsors, TV rights buyers, and VIP guest packages they have a business.

Except the latter is also struggling (although trying to diversify)

Indeed, F1 doesn't like fans at all. Once it is on Sky and pay per view then I will give up on it, Bernie won't give a st.

Aggregate qualifying that'll be easy to follow for the love of god there were two very simple solutions to this:

1) go back to the old system
2) Save face Q1&2 New knockout format Q3 old system (thanks for vetoing that one Mclaren & Redbull)

Then the teams come up with the best splits over two runs, why don't we have two races on Sunday & get the best aggregate times from that & then declare the winner.

Only in F1 do they royally fk themselves & the fans at every opportunity .

The more they tinker with the format of F1 the less I like it. Turbo, hybrid energy recovery lift and coast and now musical chairs elimination give me a break. Jean Todt you made me cancel my Sky F1 contract good job. Trying to apeal to a younger fan base by turning off the hard core fans is not working.
I have given up on going to races (spectacle destroyed by new engines) - horrified in 2014 at Spa by listening to commentary over PA WHILE THE CARS WERE PASSING IN FRONT OF ME....

F1 became TV only after that.

Now quali is pants I don't watch that.

Races seem ok on the TV but I am now not bothered if I miss any of it over race weekend. I used to enthuse to people who had never been about seeing these things for real. Now I never talk about it.

Make these things race cars again. LOUD and fast. Go back to a quali format that worked really well please. I think I'll be gone soon after watching live for 8 years (late starter) and on TV since 1976 as a kid. I remember Hunt v Lauda etc....

I go back a little earlier still - first F1 race I saw was won by Pedro Rodriguez - but I ma struggling to maintain interest at the moment. Not just lack of noise- but the feeling that F1 has somehow got totally out of step with its followers but still blunders on as though it is the only show in town .Grotesque budgets, endless petty bickering , silly circuits and rapacious , cynical greed .

One reason I will be Silverstone and Donington Classics -where I will be getting very close to very loud cars- whether sports, Can Am or F1

I hope Bernie doesn't see this. He'll be charging for 2 races per GP instead of just 1.

Teams are set to reject the aggregate 2 lap qualifying, FIA refuse to go to last year's system, looks like the same again for China http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/123654...

T.F.F.T.

Only logical thing to do, but you can't discount the arrogance of the troll or the fia; I'd have expected a massive hit on TV numbers for the saturday once the european-friendly races are underway, I wonder if a few broadcasters whined to bernie?

I would have liked to have seen them retain the knock out format for the first two sessions and then go back to the 2015 format for Q3. I liked the way the knock out put pressure on the low/middle ranked teams but also assured us the top guys would get relatively clear air when doing their fastest laps in Q3. Then again I don't think that option was on the table and the 2015 system vs the current system is marginally better, though I've never been a fan of the 2015 system either really.

I thought that idea was floated at some point?

I think it fails myself as while the "countdown to knockout" induces on the surface a slight panic, but due to the outlap/ hotlap 3+ minute delay there's more often than not nothing at all the team/driver being counted out can do about it. You're reacting to the guy ahead of the guy ahead of the guy being counted down. And if whoevers on track goes quick you can go from 4 guys in to counted out in a seconds, with often nobody quite sure where they're going to end up. Gimme the tried and trusted end-of-session, tracks-rubbered-in, everyone not safe goes for a last-chance hoorah

Remind me again, did I like last year's format when it 1st came out or did I think it was a pile of pants that real F1 fans should boycott?

No idea. But last years is lodged in my mind as a reasonable compromise with current F1 rules.

It was for Bahrain but Mclaren & Redbull vetoed it (I'd have like to at least have seen them try it) for whatever reason.

Bernie will be sore after this loss so expect something in the future. I have been a massive F1 fan from the early 80's and have seen the ups and downs but nothing depresses me more about the current state of the sport. I have missed the first 2 races and I didn't really care.
