It's now a given there'll be even less overtaking at Monaco with the cars being wider and longer surely? And there's never much anyway.
To me, Monaco is a bit like a rally stage. It would be better used as a single car time trial.I enjoy qualifying there. The races are a bit pointless now though, unless someone messes up a pit stop.
I'm looking forward to the race. I'd decided not to buy Now! for the day, but now I will. I just don't like getting up so early. I did that for years on shift.
It's not so brilliant to see the standard trolls have returned to the PH forum, but it should be easy enough to ignore them. Why don't they hate treacle bending instead and go onto the treacle bending forums to prove how superior they are?
I'm not with those who reckon it is done and dusted. Mind you, I don't think Bottas is the equal to Rosberg, but it would be nice to be proved wrong. However, FP and qually is one thing (if you see what I mean) and the race could be something entirely different. There still are variables to be assessed and some might come back to bite the Mercs.
Regardless of what goes on with the silver cars, the battle for 'second' place could be a cracker. Last season was good, this one might be better given the change to the regs.
Whatever, those who watched it last season will continue to do so this season.
Unfortunately, those who moan about it will still moan.

Every year we get one of these guys, every year.
I start with the best intentions and plan to keep posting on these F1 threads seeing as I watch every race but unfortunately, they always end up the same i seem to remember the conclusion we came to was he has german ancestry and regards this forum and mainly british so argues the toss at every given chance as revenge for us bombing his granny
As for the racing still not convinced we have seen it all which doesn't bode well for a non 1 team race but there are other cars on the track so i'll enjoy them
McLaren at least did a fair few laps, then broke another part but at least it wasn't a honda part even if it turns out honda caused the issue with bad vibrations ?
Bottas is about where i thought he'd be first race, not a lot of time in the car/team ect but again lets see tomorrow, i do love the way the cars look but TBH it's how the race i look for, couldn't care less if they are pink or matt black as long as they give a good race

It's a shame they don't do a 3 day pass where you get the whole weekend, i'd pay for all 3 days but 7 is a waste and 1 isn't enough, hopefully the new managment wil sort something out in that direction? who knows. It's not so brilliant to see the standard trolls have returned to the PH forum, but it should be easy enough to ignore them. Please don't spoil the treacle bending forum, it's bad enough already what with the 2 factions already at each other throats over the grown or mined argument everyone knows Chobham is the worlds finest treacle mine, i meen as IF treacle could be made from sugar .

Those of us saying Lewis has his 4th WDC in the bag, and Williams are slower than expected, McLaren fighting it out with Sauber for the wooden spoon and Renault looking like a bag of horse poo (That'll be mostly down to Palmer and his(lack of)talent).
How much of the above will we say on Sunday.."Wow! Never saw that coming!" or "Yep, just as we thought!"?
I don't think Mclaren are as far back as the press make out, they're midfield, but they're not at the front of the midfield any more. How much of the above will we say on Sunday.."Wow! Never saw that coming!" or "Yep, just as we thought!"?

You say Kimi looks close to Mercedes considering the deg - but it looks like using Hamilton's times it's around 1 second a lap quicker until around lap 15-19 or so. So that's a big lead to have gained. Add in increased tyre wear for Kimi due to following the Mercedes then he will be even further behind (presuming he qualifies behind the Mercedes as it looks like will be the case).
True, Hamilton is quicker on that plot but at a higher deg rate. It also looks to me like Kimi was not pushing on the tyres, which makes it difficult to get a read on the 'true' pace. By playing around with the deg rate of his stint, it is possible to determine what lap times he could do at a comparable deg rate to Hamilton. And here, it is close. Also I've seen reports that Ferrari /RB haven't quite dialled their cars in...would explain the long runs somewhat. Not definitive, but FP3 should yield some answers.. NRS said:
Is it really a much higher deg rate? If you ignore the one 90 second lap (a driver mistake?) then even his last lap which follows a nice trend is basically the same as Kimi's best lap - so using that it takes approximately 20 laps for the Mercedes to get to the same lap time as the Ferrari. Of which it seems to be 0.5 to 1 sec a lap quicker. So by the time they get to the same pace Hamilton will likely have a 15-20 second lead. Maybe Kimi was just testing and not pushing at all, but I still see this points to Hamilton being a long way ahead of the Ferrari's. Bottas too when he gets more used to the car (assuming it works to his driving style). Plenty of other action on track which will be interesting, but I am not getting excited about the stuff up front judging from what we have seen so far.
The deg rate is relatively high ignoring the slow lap from Hamilton. I think Vettel's long run on the super soft supports my hunch (taking into account the delta between ultra and super soft), but it's only a hunch as we don't know how conservatively either Merc or Ferrari were running. Only a few more hours to go before we get a real sense of the pace.Alarm set. See you all for Quali.

Agreed Derek - I'm not going to throw my arms up in the air and give up hope after two sessions.
If they go on to dominate the race I will concede, but I may as well defer my disappointment!
The usual story re the Australian GP is that it's not a good indicator of performance for the rest of the season. It's quite a strange venue for an F1 car. So even if it is a walkover by Lewis, that doesn't mean it will continue on a more normal circuit with high speed corners. If they go on to dominate the race I will concede, but I may as well defer my disappointment!
