I wish the AU GP would return to the Adelaide street circuit.

I agree.

Use to love that circuit. Not sure if it's the same as it was after watching some of the Australian V8 footage.

Remember Mika Hakkinen having a nasty accident.

2mins+ per lap, Clark wins by over a minute despite missing third gear and the guy in third stops his car to look at his tyres then sets off again without losing his place.

I wonder if people complained about there being no overtaking in those days. laugh

Funny how these cars are looking better and better as the years pass.

Looks fantastic.

While looking for some past footage involving Nuvolari, I was staggered to see him sitting in the car.

Is it just me or does he look related to Pastor Maldonado

Was this a good idea?

This may well be a generational thing - but meh - I’m afraid for me

Ten most ingenious "cheats" in F1

I remember teams in around 1984 with the normally aspirated car having a large water reserve stating it was for the brakes. After a lap it was empty as the driver was able to empty the tank so the car was under weight. When the race finished all liquids were allows to be filled again before the car was tested.

Here is another 9.

Actually, not a "normally aspirated car" . I'm pretty sure it was Lotus - who were turbocharged by then.

You might be thinking of the Tyrrell which were using lead ballast to get to the required weight. They were normally aspirated and as a result of the cheat were excluded from all the records after the 1984 season had ended.

There were the Brabhams which had adjustable ride height so they could pass the minimum ground clearance test when under scrutiny but drop below the "legal" level when running out on the circuit.

Remember watching this a while ago. The piece about the water tank was at 22min 30 sec.

John Bernard mentions William, McLaren and others did it. But as you say Tyrrell did use lead which was the reason they were out. Funny story on how they got away with it biggrin John stated that they felt hard done by due to the Turbo cars having such an advantage.

It is actually worth the watch anyway.

It was a normally aspirated Tyrrell. It's on the list that was linked.

Lotus were at it too.

I remember reading a Nigel Roebuck article where he was told in no uncertain terms by Chapman to not pursue that line of questioning. That was obviously early than 1984 as Chapman died in 1982.

Tyrrell gilded the technique by putting lead in the water tanks.

By the sounds most teams were doing the same thing.

Just imagine what could be going on in 2018. Must be a nightmare trying to detect anything with the complex systems on a modern F1 car.

Yes the FIA tests are much more developed but still......
