Put it this way, I used to follow both. I still follow F1. For various reasons, I personally think BTCC and WRC peaked in the 80s and early 90s. F1 less so, I'm loving the recent years, and I'm relatively non-tribal in who I follow.

I thought the race was quite entertaining today. The tyre saving seemed reduced?

There was certainly more on the limit driving than usual which is a good thing. Plenty of overtaking too, albeit assisted. Same for everyone though.

We may never know for sure if the two red bull cars are the same, but if they are, then vettels drive today was up there with any of the greats.

I enjoyed the race, some good battles. I'm worried for Button. Perez was solid. Rosberg strong, and not Hamiltons finest race. Massa hampered by some strategy calls but great racecraft - no loss of fire there.

Dominant and remarkable by Vettel - utterly remarkable and at times 2 seconds a lap quicker - a Vettel and RedBull truly unleashed without regard for the title? Even Mark was polite and in a little awe...

My takeaway from recent races:

McLaren - drop Perez or, dare I say it, Button - and hire Hulkenburg and nurture him for 3-5 years.
Ferrari - you hired the wrong guy, see above.
Lotus - keep Grosjean, hire Massa assuming Hulk goes to McLaren wink
Williams - hire Massa if above does not pan out
Sauber - hire Bottas in place of Hulk.

HTH wink

No idea they showed 6 laps of the entire race pretty poor form from for the bbc. Exactly btcc is nothing but racing not nursing tyres or saving fuel flat out for the entire race after the first lap in f1 it's all about saving fuel and conserving tyres.
This is the reason why people are coming back to the btcc just for close exciting racing 5 champions should be on the grid next year entire grid of ngtc cars with bigger engines than f1 cars next year running 400bhp what more do you want.
Ah. I watched it on Sky. One thing F1 won't do next year is adjust boost or throw a safety car to spice up the action. Or introduce reverse grids. I like both formulae and have an interest that goes beyond the 'show'. From what I can see of your love of BTCC, you are cut from the same cloth. If you have never experienced a GP car in the flesh, I would be happy to give you a Friday ticket for the British GP for next year for free. Can't promise a Sunday one but will see what I can do smile
Ive experienced f1 went to Silverstone back in 2005 with the proper engine it was good to witness and hear it I was only 12/13 at the time if I can remember Montoya won it. I would never go again mind you it was a rip off back then let alone now.
I like both f1 and btcc but f1 is seriously failing in my attention ive missed the last 3 races and don't think ive missed anything on the other hand I watched every rd of the btcc this year bar one even went to oulton park to spectate and for £25 for a full day of racing compared to a f1 meet its criminal what some races charge to see 1 f1 race and a 3 support races.

I admit btcc isn't perfect the support series could do with more cars and the btcc adjusting the boost and not telling the public is frustrating but the right guy won and we had a mega end to the season. Just hope something changes next year for f1 but if it continues like this sorry but not bothering with it any more.

Hardly a fair comparison, though is it? One is a country series, the other a global series. It's like saying you local football team were cheaper and more fun to watch than forking out for a ticket to see Chelsea. It might be true, but they weren't the same standard of player or operating at the same level.

MotoGP vs F1 is a fairer comparison, and I'd agree that the spectacle of F1 falls short there.

But then MotoGP isn't exactly a long race in terms of racing time per £ as a spectator, etc...

Just binned my Sky F1 subscription, Although the coverage is excellent I am fed up to the back teeth of this tyre saving tripe. These drivers are supposed to be RACING not looking after tyres.

F1 is a shadow of its former self and because of this it has lost one of it's massive fans.

RIP F1 you are soon to be dead to me.

To be frank I not bothered about the standard of the drivers I want to see good close racing with drivers that can push each other on what we have in f1 is a mixture of both fuel saving/tyre saving and trying to be pro overtaking with drs etc and it's crap.

Indeed, when people talk about "good battles" I wonder how that reconciles with radio messages to the drivers like "If you can't take the place preserve your tyres." That's not battling as I understand it.

I could spend all night arguing this and that but at the end you still will hate the btcc and I wont change my mind so bye bye.

You are seriously comparing a country series with a world series?

Extending your argument, head to Rye House and watch the racing there.

Interesting bit on Alonsos pit exit move.
Brundle was saying its difficult to judge - I can understand his point of view in that Alonso had the right to a flat-out pit exit and that potentially JEV should have given more room - not that JEV did anything deliberately.

But Davidson then asked him "What if there was a wall along where Alonso left the track"
"Then he'd of been more careful"

ding ding we have a winner - going off track simply because its possible is not a valid excuse.
I think he said "then he'd have been more careful", actually.

And of course he's right, that's it. They will drive where they're allowed to and they seem to be allowing them to go anywhere they like these days.

If they don't want them to do it, use gravel or a barrier, like at real tracks.
Massa, tyres, tracks, Vettel - is there nothing you like about F1? Seriously, why do you bother visiting an F1 internet forum if you dislike it so much?

In fairness, this forum also has a few people who seem completely blinkered to the notion that F1 could be a lot better.

Some of the apologists here would seem to find entertainment out of the dullest races, watching them with doe-eyed, unblinking, uncritical acceptance. It displays a noticeable lack of imagination IMO.

Do we definitely know what the changes are next year regarding tyres, engines etc? I keep seeing different stories.

The technical regulations have been released and confirmed. Tyres are unchanged, engines are turbo 1.6 V6s, exhausts must not exit anywhere near the floor, noses are lower, front wings are narrower, rear wings are simpler.

Anything can be better, If some find enjoyment from the current race setup, maybe they have a better imagination, and understanding of the race that is F1 than some dull blinkered, critical boring people, who just dont get it ?
IMO wink

I noticed that and it wasn't mentioned at all - that type of eclipse is extremely rare apparently.

Just popping in to say I'm disappointed that Alonso didn't receive a penalty for his offroad excursion. If he was faster on the newer tyres, as the stewards state, he should have made a legitimate pass on the track, not off it.
