Ah, so Anthony did Lewis's dignity for him, it was nothing to do with Lewis.
No, it was actually his Fairy Godmother. She is invisible to all but Lewis and that's why whole world could not witness this. She tapped him on the shoulder and said "Lewis, do you remember what I told you last night? Dignity Lewis, dignity"

It was actually his dad that saved the day by grabbing Lewis and telling him what to say before the microphone appeared.

Anthony is remarkable and has been essential to LH entire career.
Anthony is rarely there and hasn't been for a very long time after Lewis decided to end their professional relationship and have his family as just that, family.

It must be hard work living in your universe.

Sparta was privy to the conversation, or a lip reader..., clairvoyant?...reads Nostradamus?

Not sure why someone who is so often portrayed with such a challenged personality as Lewis would heed his father's wise words.

Yes, and it's been exactly the same since day one of his F1 career. I do wonder why (not).

I think Sparta has got it a bit wrong. Anthony didn’t say anything after the race, he simply gave Lewis his face mask.

Whatever he said, Hamilton's class and dignity were extraordinary.

For whatever reason, Hamilton opted not to use his trusty face mask in his post race interview and as result, he was not his normal PR friendly self.

He criticised the team for the st strategy call that cost him points, just like any normal person would.

That side of things I think is just par for the course for any driver. Where I've always been mildly cheesed off is when people only look at one side of it and proclaim that person to have a much more even temperment than XYZ driver.

In Lewis's case Mercedes have basically been unassailable for several years, so he has had the luxury of approaching interviews from the position of having won or only lost through a rare mechanical failure, and that's the only side we've seen of him. The comfortable Lewis racing for the team that is just refining their car when everyone else is desperate to just catch up.

I remember how he was when RBR & Vettel were winning all of the time. He (arguably rightly) complained loudly and often about the dominance and what it meant for the sport, and moaned about his teams inability to compete, etc. So, it's always been there, but since 2014 Mercedes have been on top and he has not suffered. Now, he's back in that position again and we're seeing the old McLaren Lewis in interviews.

That all said I don't really blame him for this. It must be hugely frustrated thinking - and in his case knowing - that were it not for the car's shortcomings that he'd be in a totally different position, being interviewed as the race winner week in week out, etc. Such is F1.

As much as I think Lewis is one of the all time great drivers, the situation Mercedes find themselves in this year does vindicate what I've always believed - that the car is so important that a bad car makes amazing drivers look average, and consequently most of the drivers on the grid could - at any given point in time - be potential race winners if they happened to end up in the right machinery. You need only look at Russell last year - first race driving the peerless Mercedes and he would've won were it not for a pit crew snafu. Ipso facto all this talk of GOATs etc is nonsense when the car is such a make or break aspect of the sport.

I’ve noticed that when Hamilton has his helmet on, we hear the real Lewis Hamilton over the radio. Then when he takes it off and puts his face mask on, we get the fake Lewis Hamilton.

Really? I’m not sure I recall any driver in the past putting on a face mask and becoming a PR robot. His face mask basically turns him into an NPC and people like paulguitar lap it up. I guess those are the kinds of people Mercedes and co want him to pander to.

I guess that would depend on if he has his face mask on the other 99% of the time hehe

'whatxd' should take the mask obsession over here, perhaps:

I don't think he will.

He should have had win #8 last year, but Masi gave it to Max. banghead

Mercedes look hopeless this season and LH is getting beaten by GR most weekends.

I just hope when the time comes he doesn't bumble around desperate for a point or two like Vettel and Alonso!

Yup, an episode that will forever shame the sport.

Hamilton has been adversely affected by safety cars that have benefitted Russell in 3 of the 5 races so far.

Lewis is ahead of George 3 to 2 in qualifying.

I don't think Lewis will stick around too long if Merc can't solve its issues.

GR doesn't seem to be too worried about the "issues", he is the up and coming star.
