Or just vary it. Why always that exact phrase? It's hardly as if it is imaginative or clever.

i can forgive him for “Lights out and away we go”, just as Murray Walker always started with a variation on “And it’s go go go”. The first few seconds of the race, the commentator needs to actually look at what’s happening, and there’s often nothing to say until he sees who made a good or a bad start.
Better he has a standard phrase in his head, rather than immediately shouting more bks which turns out to be wrong a few seconds later.

Watching the Brawn doco last night, bring back Legard - honestly! Calm, unexcited, to the point and not constantly jabbering.
NoooooHe was even more of a wker.
His inane drone and total lack of, well anything meant even an exciting race was naff ("can x overtake y, lets see, oh no they didn't, well maybe they can here, no, lets see if they drive faster next lap.....snoooze)
Legard sticks out in my mind as the worst F1 commentator of all time...
he sticks out in my mind as being a sports commentator asked to do an impossible job to be fair.
He had a great track record of commentating on all sports, but f1 needs a proper f1 knowledge person really.. As for him being the worst, Croft has the baton, the track, the rest of the commentators and is happily eating them all to make sure none can get close to being not only the worst f1 comms of all time but one of the worst sports commentators I have ever heard in my entire life. the only person remotely close is Carlton kirby

How's about saying nothing, let us hear the cars, and just commentate on something when it does happen.
That's the problem with modern commentary, they never shut up.
Watched a bit of snooker lately on the Eurosport coverage on YouTube and it was the same format. That's the problem with modern commentary, they never shut up.
Yap Yap & more yapping instead of commentating when needed

Given the farce today Sky kept showing the commentary box. Crofty has been at the pies recently hasn't he!
He's been massive for years, and his shirts are always too small, so he bulges out of them. Someone should have a word or pixilate the image. There are other commentators from other networks and yet you still watch Crofty even though you can't stand him. I don't understand the logic.

You might not like the way this bloke presents the Formula 1, but is it really fair to make snide comments about his weight online?

I think it's fair to ask an onscreen presenter to not bulge out of his clothes. He has no excuse, he can afford to buy something that fits. There are other commentators from other networks and yet you still watch Crofty even though you can't stand him. I don't understand the logic.
SKY F1 have a monopoly in the UK for live coverage.
