Hamilton has dressed in a similar fashion at these events for quite a few years. I'm sure if it the organisers were that upset they'd have had a quiet word with him by now.

Dress code: black tie.

Four words to indicate just how up itself an event is.

Who'd have thought a bunch of male motorsport fans would take such an interest in what other men wear.

Tell me about it. Hamilton has a great year, spends time with a young driver at an awards evening and various other points during the season and all Cold seems to bh and moan about is the clothes he wears

Quite pathetic really

Finally a racing driver who is not boring as hell. Sure if the blond James Hunt will have done something like that in our time people will have praised how different he is than the others and blablabla.
Here's a pic of Max at the same event receiving his Personality of the Year trophy. For the third year in row. Proving that being able to dress like a 70s glitter ball does not mean you have a personality.

Personality of the year by the FIA... Oh dear, what personality exactly has he got? Fitting with the corporate f1 circus, yes, I agree. Looks like an interesting block outside a F1? Not at all!

I would have thought Ricciardo would have been a shoe in for "Personality of the Year"

The reasoning behind it is really quite simple...

You'll have LH detractors, probably the same ones since the day he made his debut all those years ago.
LH has, for many years done something or another each season to have these detractors come out in force, spending months on Ph venting their anger, releasing the frustrations that's built up.

This past few season has been a slight turning point, there's been nothing to bh at LH during races, so to relieve themselves, they find his dress code as desperate measures to let off some steam, to use to clear their mouths of the froth that's built up.

Simples.

Not really. White tie would be a bit pretentious, but I don't see an issue with black tie.

Personality? It's only recently - perhaps the mellowing effect of danny R - that he's stopped looking to me like he's going to rape someone.

Anyone seriously upset enough to complain on a forum about what Hamilton is wearing might want to take a few minutes to have a think about their own lives.

Or we could just use our own judgement and dress appropriately. Sadly, I don't move in powerfully built circles and don't have to be dictated to as to how to dress.

This thread summed up:

Wow! A drivrer able to express himself and his own sytle in todays overly corporate world

Then:

How dare Lewis express himself. It's making me sick. He should not express himself and stick to the corporate line. He forgets we own him...

They both look stupid. What’s your point? This thread is about LH not Petter Solberg.
Exactly. This thread is for the ridicule of Lewis only.
Lots of other famous sports people may dress like complete tools - we aren’t interested.
Taking a wild stab in the dark, I'll guess the invite was 'Black Tie or National Dress' - most of my company events apply this dress code. Solberg is in national dress.
