He's impressed me in the last couple of years. Much as I want to see lewis spank him his sheer tenacity deserves respect, a worthy adversary.

I think vettel having a few tough seasons has improved other areas of his racecraft. Not much to split the two drivers up at the front today! Let's hope this continues all season!

Have Merc managed to cock the strategy up and hand the advantage back to Ferrari after just getting back into the hunt?

Not been convinced at all be Merc strategy, think they've been lazy due to having such a huge performance advantage for the past three years.
It's normally Ferrari making a hash of stratergy, but this year a role reversal.
Oops, hehe
Lol... I know, I know.

They nailed it under the VSC today, I thought they had left him out far too long until the VSC came out... maybe it saved them, maybe they already had it covered.... but can't criticise them today (well, I shouldn't have).

And we see Ferrari in a different boat. All of a sudden they seem to have a very good race car and they're not looking to mix it up with strategy but looking to defend what they have... and then mistakes start happening.

He's grown into it and now oozes confidence.

I was one of his biggest critics and rightly so if you look at 2009 and the nadir of 2010 and dubbed the 'Crash Kid' and arguably relied on having things handed on a plate with pit strategy

Easy to say what was right or wrong with hindsight, biggrin I was a bit suspicious they messed it up, but there is a lot of people on the teams with far more information than we see, so thought it best to wait. I would have to say Ferrari probably didn't really make mistakes today either - just with the 2 Mercedes cars against the 1 Ferrari it gave Mercedes more options to play games/ slightly block Vettel for a bit.

funny how things turn out, then. He pwned Hamilton wheel to wheel today, but LH won by having it handed to him on a plate with pit strategy, plus the roadblock formerly known as V Bottas. wink

Not surprised you would see it that way, you don't think your dislike of Lewis may have clouded your judgment just a little?

Two things you can rely on in life; rain in Manchester... and DeadSlow spouting garbage in F1 threads. rofl

Vettel has always been great wheel to wheel but never had the measure of Hamilton. In their early years in F1, Vettel didn't have the confidence and certainly preferred to not have to fight for positions - but they're back, more or less, even again.

No, just saying what I saw, factually, making no editorial judgement on the merits of the various drivers.

LOL.... I know I shouldn't bite.... Owned for the first 200 meters. I think had Lewis been pushed even wider in the post pit stop T1 incident, and gone left of the bollard, you'd have seen Seb in grief for causing a collision. Am glad it didn't come to that. Things did work out for Lewis today, the VSC pit stop, Seb struggling to pass Bottas, all helped him out. But it won't be like that every weekend.

I was genuinely surprised Lewis overtook him, at that point I thought Seb had the race won. I suspect Seb didn't get out of the last corner very well as the tyre delta was only 0.5 a lap. The Merc seemed better in the final sector but Lewis must have been pushing very hard to be with Seb going into the chicane.

I'm very pleased we have two great drivers in what appears pretty equal equipment fighting it out. Really enjoying a rejuvenated Seb, would love Fred to be in a competitive car as well.

just seen the little lad on SKY who was so upset by Kimi crashing out, its fair to say at 6 years old he has far more personality than his hero has.

So you missed the bit where Lewis 'pwned' (as you put it) Sebastian, and went on to win the race, those are the facts I think :-)

I enjoyed watching that.

If I was being charitable, I'd say that Vandoorne was caught out by Massa's closing speed. Palmer's just not showing up for race day. Nice drive from the FI guys. Stroll had an unremarkable track day (what did today cost his dad £1.5m - £2m - ish?)

BTW Brundle chatting to Bernie on the grid about buying Force India and renaming it Brabham - that's not a real thing is it?

Is it time to start a silly season thread yet?

Bitterness tends to cloud judgement especially with this one's dislike for Lewis...

Lewis was like a train going past him.

looking fwd to those that have condemded Lewis in the past, for wheel banging & pushing others wide on the outside, to be equally as hard on Vettel ...not holding my breath, mind rolleyes
