Favourite F1 cars 1980 onwards

As an aside, but on/off topic...I’ve just acquired 1 of 15 Alfa Romeo 3.5 v10 engines. Originally designed for ligier, but things went south. Then it was the engine for the 165 procar. Again that never happened. Then it was defined for the Alfa group C, but that was thwarted too
Not sure yet what to do with it, but Currently I’m torn between an Alfa 155 dtm homage with a mid mounted v10, or an Alfa tipo 33 replica with a v10 engine.
I think I have issues tbh

Age - hmm , one tends to like what was around between the age of 15 and 25 (ish ) but it's possible to develop a more sophisticated palate . I am sixty um ...err...classified and cars like the Eagle Weslake and Lotus 49 were winning stuff when I got interested . But while the Eagle has to be near the top of my list (and I am not alone in that - look at it!) I have to come to adore Grand Prix cars from many decades - from the svelte perfection of a Bugatti T35 to pukka F1 cars like the Lotus 25 , the Ferrari 156, 312T and 641 , the sublime Brabham BT 52 and more modern cars like the current Merc W12 and Red Bull RB16B . Their aero detail is fussy , they are a bit too big but they still can captivate .
Here's the Eagle , from the last year before wings gatecrashed the show

Agreed. F1 cars change all the time. I like some cars from before I was even born - so that can’t be age related. Not all the cars of my youth were that good looking either. Look at the 1972 Eifelland or the 1980 Ensign.
I don’t care much for the current era cars but the renditions of what the 2022 cars might look like seem promising.

Although I note that car is currently up for auction on f1 authentics
Night feel differently after tomorrow’s first run(:
I may have seen Modena race this chassis at Silverstone in 1988, it's so good to see it brought back to a proper condition. Any pics of the shakedown?Although I note that car is currently up for auction on f1 authentics

Obviously I'm talking in general
And that's always a bit dangerous. People aren't "general" - they are individuals, with individual thoughts and opinions.People in general like stuff from their youth, you see it all the time on this very site.
I think we like SOME stuff from our youth - but not to the exclusion of things that existed before we were born and more modern stuff.
Nostalgia plays a part in our lives but not to the point where we don't exclude modern stuff from our "likes". I love building plastic kits. Every now and then I get a buzz out of building an ancient Airfix kit from the 1960s that I remember building as a kid - but I also get a kick out of building one of their latest all singing, all dancing releases.

But you seem to exclude the fact that people also won't like stuff from their youth. I like lots of 70s music (but not all) but I don't care for most 70s fashions.
I like a lot of 70s F1 cars but there were some hideous heaps on the grid in those days too.
I like the Jordan 191, not because it was running in 1991 and I was younger then, but because I find it an aesthetically pleasing object to look at.

You're taking this too specifically. Saying "people like stuff from their youth" doesn't mean they don't like anything at all from any other era.Nostalgia plays a part in our lives but not to the point where we don't exclude modern stuff from our "likes". And just because someone likes some cars from before they were born or from after they turned 30, doesn't mean they aren't biased towards or have no overall preference to cars of their own era.
Not saying that applies to you personally, but it certainly does to me. I like some Formula 1 cars from before I was born, and I like some that have come along much later. And there were some really ugly cars made when I was young. But overall, that was the prettiest period for me. Same with music. Music from my youth has lots of songs I like, and some I don't. Music from before I was born has some songs I like and lots I don't. Music from after I turned 30 has some songs I like and a lot that I don't.
This is a bias or a preference tied to when I was young. People who don't have this are quite uncommon.
People can only honestly talk about their own personal preferences. Trying to ascribe their personal view on things to others is just silly.
I like certain things from my youth, I like certain things from before I was born and certain things from now.
The year of my birth pays very little part in my feelings about such things.

I really enjoyed reading this, what a brilliant project! The original Engine cover looks so much better. I would really like to see more.
Have you considered starting a retrospective thread detailing the restoration & subsequent operation? The kind of thing Popopbangbang might have put together?

Thanks for sharing this, I'll give your Instagram account a look. I really don't think thatI could sell something like this, especially after having shaken it down!
Edit. I've just seen your Insta Account, you were shaking down 25 minutes from where I live, what are the chances!? It looks and sounds glorious by the way

One of the many things I love about 80s and 90s f1 cars is the size of the diffusers, rather than the rather apologetic versions we have today. Look at the proper diffuser on the back of the (beautiful) MP4/5B as an example:
