Trouble is you get a situation where vettel has won it with 3 races to go and why bother watching the last 3 races?
Eh? Why watch races? Because they should (should) still be interesting spectacles in their own right. The races are should be what is exciting, not the accumulation of points.RichB said:
his is modern F1. The problem is that Ecclestone has introduced so many races into the calendar that each race no longer becomes an event in itself. It's just one long slog throughout the summer these days with race weekends often consecutive to each other. All down to maximising the money of course - quantity not quality!
disagree, a race is a race is a race, doesn't matter what came before and what goes after. Although I do agree if what you mean is that with fewer races, the stakes are higher so drivers are less likely to settle for a lower finishing position. I'd never thought of that before. There are certainly far too many races at the moment. What if they are waiting to see how things pan out this year with the new engine format, if it is close they may vote to retract the double points for the last race in 2015 situation and maintain current status quo.
This way, they have an option in place for 2015 to “make it exciting” (yawn) in the event Finger wins again.

So what about the what ifs? It should never have been done at all, there are no excuses for it. If the teams wanted this as well as Bernie then the sport is doomed. I hope Ron Dennis coming back will beat some sense into people (I don't really, of course it won't) but what the hell are the team principals thinking? This way, they have an option in place for 2015 to “make it exciting” (yawn) in the event Finger wins again.

Fully agree it is s&^t, terrible, seriously undermines the sport, I'm only trying to find a silver lining in this dark cloud of doom for our beloved F1. These things change and this could well go away if 2014 proves to be an exciting, closer season (like 2007, 2008, 2010). Having RD back is a plus.zebedee said:

I thought I read somewhere that luca di montezemolo invited the other teams to Marenello to discuss the rule changes as the fans weren't happy? It gets better, Bernie wants double points for the last three races.

Why doesn't he just double all of them for maximum benefit?

Just heard this on the radio on the way to work, the old boy really has lost it! http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/formula1/25955560

If he wants to spice up the end of the season why doesn't he just have a cutoff, say 5 races from the end, where say the top 5 drivers are all roughly equalised on points and only those 5 drivers are able to challenge for the title similar to NASCAR and now Biritsh Superbikes, in which the format has worked extremely well

Or we could just ask him to sit in a corner and drum his lips with his fingers?I sort of see where he's coming from. By doing this you bias the chances of winning to the team with the better car at the end of the season. This should therefore discourage temas fom binning off current development in favour of working on the following years car.
It still sucks though, it's worse than the stupid medal idea.

It has been suggested that Bernie now wants the last three races to have double points, to even out the chance of a 'rogue' result in the last race.
Why not do that by having double points for all the races ;-) Come on Bernie, get a grip on reality. It's for all the other teams to catch and beat
the guy in the lead - just like every other sport that exists on this planet, whether it involves an engine or not!!
