Yes the change in tyres has really hurt Kimi - he seems to be somewhat similar to Button in that if the car is setup perfectly he is untouchable but if it is slightly off he struggles perhaps more than others. Then again his downward spiral also started the moment he signed for Ferrari and I can't help but wonder if Lotus have thrown all their weight behind Grosjean in a bid to reassure potential sponsors that they are still worth investing in, despite losing Kimi and their top tech guy to Ferrari.
Of all the drivers, if unhappy, you would have to say Kimi is the most likely to stick 2 fingers up and simply not show up though.......
There was also the switch to the LWB Lotus which perhaps calms down Grosjean a little while masking the last nth of Kimi's ability to dance the car around. Hypothetical of course as Grosjean has shown himself to be a pretty slick driver in the past few races. Comedy radio moment from Jenson Button,
(it went something along the lines of)
Engineer - we have a rear puncture, you need to pit
JB - OK
E - Can you look in your mirror and tell us what the tyre looks like?
JB - Yes, I know where the tyres are. It's black and round same as the other one.

Yes Grosjean has been impressive lately (IMO apart from the crashes he has never been bad and certainly never slow), but when he is now 3 - 5 tenths a lap faster than Kimi it can't all be down to his own improvement. For all of the much lauded talent Kimi is meant to have, I find that he has the habit of not turning up at races from time to time, even when he is actually there. Sometimes when he was at ferrari he gave the impression that he couldn't be bothered.
Far from being the ever consistent iceman, I suspect he is actually a bit brittle and prone to moodiness when things aren't to his liking, where he just goes through the motions without really putting the effort in.
A hard man to manage I suspect. Although not paying him his wages isn't going to help !

Leave him alone. He knows what he's doing Far from being the ever consistent iceman, I suspect he is actually a bit brittle and prone to moodiness when things aren't to his liking, where he just goes through the motions without really putting the effort in.

I know he's well off - but Grojean's getting a wage - why not Kimi ?

Is Grosjean being paid? By Lotus? I wouldn't have thought he was yet past the point where he needs to bring some commercial support to the team, in all honesty. I know he's well off - but Grojean's getting a wage - why not Kimi ?

Great in principle I suppose but I'm amazed he's still racing at all to be honest.

I think there is something whiffy about this story.
Why get pissy now ? why not halfway through the season ?
Last time all this was going on Lotus admitted he hadn't had bonus payments but said he would be getting paid.
I reckon its got more to do with the race in India than pay.
Last season he was signed up for 2013 and knew he would be paid at the end of 2012, at the end of this season he is off to Ferrari and have you ever tried to get money out of someone you no longer work for?Why get pissy now ? why not halfway through the season ?
