I read an article in Autosport recently effectively saying how ridiculous it is that the driver market is being held up by a driver who most team bosses wouldn't even return his phone call let alone put him in their car.
If they had a choice.
It's a shame he wasn't born yesterday, or we could have started his personality from scratch... If they had a choice.

Seriously though, he is quite quick, but the chips on each shoulder are not equal in weight so he ends up a bit unbalanced.
...so this thug and his ill-gotten money have probably got into Lotus. I think this is a travesty and a sign of a sad state of affairs in F1 where talent is second only to financial backing.
Maldonado actually appears to be a reasonably good driver over a lap which bothers me even more because it undermines my point somewhat. However I think we can all count on him making stupid mistakes and decisions which will probably ruin the races of not only himself and Lotus but other, better drivers- maybe even his team mate. All the while he will stubbournly refuse to accept any responsability and, in all likelihood, will ultimately alienate his team as he has at Williams.
Meanwhile, several skilled drivers are without a seat for next year- any one of which I would trust more than Pastor to integrate into a team and make useful contributions behind the scenes other than financial ones.
I sincerely hope that he finds himself without a drive, although I have pretty much resigned to the fact that he will get one, and it'll be at a better team than 2013 Williams. Shame.

If he does get the Lotus seat I'm willing to give him one more year to prove himself, much like Grosjean (who I was ready to write off this time last year). I think being stuck in an uncompetitive Williams for a few years and stuck in the part of the field that is a lot more prone to contact between cars hasn't helped things, although his attitude does at times leave a lot to be desired. But every once in a while he puts in a good performance. A solid year with a good car, some points and no major contacts would reset things a little.

Did he not paralyze a Marshall or something in a lower formula?
I think he had a lifetime ban from racing in Monaco, but of course money talks and it was overturned.Did he not paralyze a Marshall or something in a lower formula?
Can't find the source, but C+P from F1 Technical - 2005.
"After an incident at the Monaco Grand Prix that left a marshal with a broken back, young Renault development driver Pastor Maldonado has been banned from racing at the principality for life.
Maldonado had already been banned for the next four races in the World Series by Renault championship for the incident when he failed to slow for a crash during practice however, organisers of the Monaco Grand Prix thought it wise to ban him for life.
It’s a harsh blow for the Venezuelan who has already tested for the Minardi team in Formula One as it means he is likely to never get to race a Formula One car, no team could afford to drop a driver especially if he is serious about winning the title.
Maldonado says he regrets the accident and is “going through very difficult times”, he also said he believes the penalty to be completely justified."
Just to add fuel to the fire of the bloke being an idiot.

Personally, I dont rate Maldonado at all. Too much of a liability to just do something stupid.
I know he hasnt always had a good car, but he hasent performed great either. He may have won in Spain 2012, but he got no points for 9 races or so after that. Then he took out Lewis (?) in Valencia 2012.
He is only in contention for the seat at Lotus because he has $30 million in sponsorship. If it was just on tallent, they would hire Hulkenberg.

Not so sure he has those funds now, bit of a grey area between how things were left with Williams and how much new money he will still get.He is only in contention for the seat at Lotus because he has $30 million in sponsorship. If it was just on tallent, they would hire Hulkenberg.

Maybe, but a couple of points:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kt5nt7IdyPs
The cars were over a blind crest; the camera has a very different view to the driver.
Red flags were shown, but couldn't see from this view if Mal had seen them prior to cresting the top.
The marshals should have waited until race control confirmed that the cars were slow enough before entering the track
The guys certainly has a history, but that Youtube is a bit tricky to see the full story from.
