According to Ross Brawn they were all 2nd class teammates by comparison.

But how many competitive teammates did he have? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x6PCeyqheCY

I don't think Hamilton will reach Schumacher's total because he doesn't insist on No1 status.
Bottas made himself No2 this year by not getting close enough. Hamilton even 'paid him back' what could have been vital points early in the season. No No1 driver would dream of doing that.
If Hamilton changes his mind then I'm sure Merc could line up a succession of fall-guys to take points away from competitors and make sure Hamilton takes maximum points.
Then I think he could push Schumacher's total.
But it ain't going to happen.

I guess the question is whether Bottas will ever be capable of challenging him. I was surprised this year by how big the gap was - I never really rated Bottas as a top tier driver but I thought he'd be consistantly close... maybe as he settles into the team he'll close the gap but this year he wasn't even quick enough to play rear-gunner properly. One of the bigger problems both Hamilton and Vettel had this year was that when their respective car was faster, their team mate wasn't capable of coming second. From that point of view, Bottas getting a bit faster will make it easier for Hamilton to win the title, not harder.
Someone with lots of statistics to hand... when was the last season with so few team one-twos? There were, what, four this season?

Be under no illusion that if Lewis was still battling for the WDC with Vettel down to the wire, Mercedes would have found a way to get him past Bottas in Abu Dhabi Bottas made himself No2 this year by not getting close enough. Don’t think it would have needed team orders. After giving Bottas his place back earlier in the year, Valtteri would have done it through respect 37chevy said:

Don’t think it would have needed team orders. After giving Bottas his place back earlier in the year, Valtteri would have done it through respect I think he will retire before he breaks the total wins or titles set by schumacher myself, he is doing more and more outside of F1 and think this will be where he wants to go in the next few years
I am not going to compare drivers of differnet era's due to cars and other factors, so i don't think we will ever really know but I think Lewis is up there. I do think Schumacher made the ultimate of his position with the team, tyres and such around him as he had no compeitition basically
For me Silvertsone 2008 set out how good Lewis was, in the wet he was in a different class to everyone else in the field and ended up finishing almost a minute ahead which generally in the last 20yrs is almost unheard of. I think he has always managed to get the best out of a car, and has won a race in every year of F1 he has competed which i think may be something only he has acheived?

It looks like he’ll go for 4 more years at least.
He’s 31 wins behind MSC. He’s averaged around 10 wins a year the last 4 years. If he wins that many a year he’s going to be there or thereabouts in the title race so it’s certainly feasible.
If he races more than 4 years I think the win total is nailed on.

Agree hes spent most of his life racing. At some point he's going to quit and have a disastrous singing career I am not going to compare drivers of differnet era's due to cars and other factors, so i don't think we will ever really know but I think Lewis is up there. He'd already have at least 6 if he did - 2007 and 2016.Bottas made himself No2 this year by not getting close enough. Hamilton even 'paid him back' what could have been vital points early in the season. No No1 driver would dream of doing that.
