It's remarkable Frank lived such a long and full life after his spinal injury.

I've worked on a lot of the early Williams cars, from his Frank Williams Racing and then Williams GP Engineering days, he was very much a live by the seat of his pants type guy just surviving to the next race (and pissing off a lot of people in the process) until he teamed up with Patrick who turned the engineering around, together they dominated the sport for a while. It all really went tits up at the end of the BMW years, they never properly recovered from that.

RIP Frank, a proper hard working, passionate and risk taking old school racer long gone from the sport now.

A sad day for the sport.

For many of us our love of F1 came from - whether you supported the team or not - Williams Grand Prix Engineering.

Many leaders are respected but few are also loved.

May you rest in peace Sir Frank and thanks for the memories.

Sad news indeed. One of the legends, and the last of the old-school privateers until only a couple of years ago. God speed and fly high Sir Frank.

The word ‘legend’ is used too frequently these days, but it’s very apt when describing Sir Frank.

Rest in peace - you’ll be missed by many.

For me, his era was the very pinnacle of F1 - the perfect combination of modern engineering, danger, thrills, noise, and full of real characters with plums the size of water melons.

As somebody with a spinal injury, nowhere nr the severity of Sir Franks I should add, I always looked up to him after my accident, he was a huge inspiration for what I could achieve.

Massive loss to the world of motorsport.

RIP Sir.

Very sad.
Frank showed how a British privateer could take on the best in the world.
An incredible man and true inspiration.

RIP Frank Williams.
Its cruel that due to a combination of events he never got to see his cars running the new regs with him
as team owner.

He's seen no end of new regs. His team's innovations caused a fair few of them!

I'm not sure it's possible to stay in a sport like F1 for so many decades without starting to resent change, the sport never stands still and at a certain age, even someone like Frank probably wished it had remained as it was in his heyday.

I reckon he liked the era when the regs were loose enough to allow for all kinds of radical innovation and variety. I miss those days too tbf! These days we can and did wait an entire decade for something completely new to appear: DAS.
