On the podium...

I think they need to really get on top of these adhoc messages though. The whole idea is that the sport pre-determines what it wants to stand for each season (drink driving, racism, whatever they choose), and those messages are displayed as determined in advance. Then any other messages are paid for via sponsors. Any sport that relies upon sponsorship really need to control what is shown as the sponsors are paying for prominence - anything else added in detracts from what was paid for.

Great to see a decent crowd, , more dignitaries than we’ve seen so far this season, and even a Paddock Club above the pits. Slowly returning to something approaching normality.

You'd like to think that Sky could sort out their microphones so they weren't constantly being blown out by wind noise, generators and helicopters.

Doc, how far does the Mustang go on a tank of fuel?

I've got Now on one screen, F1.tffeed.net together with PH on 'tother and am waiting for Radio 5L to start in order to protect my ears.

All set up and ready to go.

Turn one might well be exciting for all concerned, especially at the start, on cold tyres and hot brains. An advantage to MV on softs, perhaps for a lap or even two. Will LH care? He's fighting VB and no one else in reality. I wonder if it is in his brain?

We'll soon know.

Mind you, I wonder if the software problem at RB has really been solved.

On a long trip at 80-100mph, around 320-350 mile.

Around town, in race mode, giving it the beans, around 200 miles.

I wasn’t sure at what the messages were banned.

I drove one halfway along route 66. 20ish mpg depending on driving. Bet if you're pushing it you can drive it down to single digit mpg! smile

Is that the GT 5.0 though? Looks like it.

Up until this point it's just generally been the case that all drivers, pundits, presenters etc are aware that messages are paid for in terms of F1 and it's best not to detract from that. I get the justification if there is an important message to share and you have a platform from which to do it... But it is at odds with selling exposure. It's either a free for all or paid for.

Up until recently that was a given and didn't need to be enforced I guess. Seems like maybe now it does.

I'm keyed up for some reason. My hands are freezing and my mouth's dry. It's like going into court.

Odd.

The split screen view between Hamilton and Schumacher that Sky did is very clever and well edited. It must have taken ages to find all the footage.

(Apologies if already mentioned)

Compared to the usual overblown performances (USA, we're looking at you here!), I quite enjoyed that.

There’s an eerie quietness of anticipation at the circuit.

You’d think there were 27 people here, not 27000
