Lewis Hamilton (Vol. 2)

It was 50 50. Hamilton could easily have not had any penalty... and I would have seen why. But I equally see why he got the 10 seconds. It was 50 50 and down to who was on on the day.
Agree with you there.Possibly the most exciting half lap of F1 this season; don't let the powers that be deter such on the edge driving by applying penalties left right and centre. It was the first lap too which is generally accepted as having slightly looser interpretation of the rules.
I'm a fan of both MV and LH so am hopefully impartial... it was just great to see literally wheel to wheel racing.
Glad MV is ok.

One thing's for sure LH has sent a big message out to MV today. He'll think twice in the same situation now. Planted a little seed of doubt I reckon.
Exactly. It had to be done otherwise the championship was going to tiptoe away from Hamilton. I still think MV has this year in the bag though.

LH has little to lose as Max will walk this championship unless the gloves come off.
Max still looks set to be WDC IMO. But Hamilton has drawn a line in the sand - that Max's aggressive moves won't be tolerated by him. Had to be done.
That’s pretty much where I sit. Very impressed with Max this season but he needs to pace himself and Lewis is doing what any great driver would, he’s raised the stakes today. Thankful that Max is ok. Lewis made a don’t mess with me statement. Horner a big whinger always moaning if he doesn’t get his own way and Max is far too aggressive.
There is making a statement and causing a collision which sends someone into a 51g crash into tyres. I think lewis knew if he didn't get past there it was curtains for his race as the merc appears to turn to shyte following in dirty air.Water Fairy said:

I think Max is more likely to read it as "aggressive moves is fine" and send it even more. Hopefully with Max losing out again - not because I dislike him, I just dislike him tending to offer the "I'm passing or we crash" moves on people. So it'd be good if he learns not to do that. Same with his stuff in the past where he weaves a lot under braking. It makes it hard/impossible to have good racing as it just ends in a crash or someone bailing out.chippy348 said:
What i dont see being asked is this,
If LH had not Hit MV, would LH and made the corner on the track ?
I feel LH would have ran wide and gone off the track, to me that is the answer.
LH was never going to make that corner at that speed and from the position he was on the track
Except he did make it around the corner, reasonably comfortably; the minor touch against Verstappen made no difference, certainly wasn't sufficient to change his trajectory. Verstappen also had plenty of room on the left, he chose not to use it.If LH had not Hit MV, would LH and made the corner on the track ?

Agreed, Max should have have either gone round the outside or done the switch around. Instead he was reckless and cut across the front of Lewis.
I think that Hamilton has been yielding quite easily before today. He was doing it for the right reasons; playing the long game when he assumed he’d naturally end up ahead, but now that it’s clear that his advantage is marginal at best he knows that he has to be more assertive.
I think that the stewards got this one wrong. There was an open door, but even if it’s closing a racer needs to go for it.
If he ignores a closing door then he’s already lost.
Max has been taking advantage of Hamilton’s “play it safe” attitude and today found out what happens when the other guy doesn’t let you do that.
I hope he’s doing well, and has no major injuries, and I hope that Hamilton puts him into the wall every time that he tries the same move in the future.

Yes but then lost the place to Charles as he slowed down that much to keep it on the track. So from my point if he had not made contact into MV he was going to loose a bunch of time buy running wide as he as going to fast and on the wrong line.

I saw it as 60:40
Hamilton made the corner, not the apex as he slid slightly wider but max was trying to pinch in rather than play safe.
I think max convinced himself Hamilton would back out and was trying to cut across the front of him, disturb his exit, after all as DC and Horner stated…you don’t overtake there. Makes it about the only place you’ll get past somebody who is as fast and aggressive as max.
Hamilton overtook 2 drivers at that same corner without any problem. that Verstapen moves reminded me of his attempt to shut the door to Ocon in Brazil.. He lost that one as well. Hamilton made the corner, not the apex as he slid slightly wider but max was trying to pinch in rather than play safe.

Max has always been good at overtaking but too aggressive when going backwards, which has served him well when people aren't racing him for championship position but causes incidents when they are. Riccardo tried to call his bluff but clearly didn't impress RB. Now we're seeing Lewis refuse to cede position.
Great racing here today and thoroughly deserved win. Unlucky for Verstappen of course but racing incident with neither driver playing dirty tricks. Neither want to be second best and that is good for us watching. 52 Laps of that sparring would have been great but good for Lewis and the championship.
Cleaner racing than the great MS sometimes showed.
Just can't understand the abuse Lewis gets. Some class people out there.

Great race, with great racing. I thought it was a racing incident but was sure straight away that Hamilton would be penalised. What really annoyed me was hearing Christian Horner’s interaction with Michael Masi when he said “every driver knows you don’t go up the inside there etc etc etc” as if it’s some sort of no overtaking zone. It’s a racetrack! Everywhere is an overtaking zone! Horner’s nasally whine irritates the st out of me!
Helmut Marko calling for Hamilton to be given a race ban? Bellend.
Max calling Hamilton disrespectful for celebrating his win? Bellend. He knew Max was okay, he served his penalty, he fought back and won the race.
The remainder of the championship is going to be fascinating, and I’m sure they’re going to come together again.

This accident was always going to happen at some point during the season, when Lewis decided not to back out leading to the inevitable collision. Max’s aggression earned him a very fast trip to the tyre barriers and a sore body this morning, but thankfully he wasn’t injured.
Game on for the rest of the season!
