They're not using DAS to steer the car,
I didn't say they were, I said they were using DAS to steer the front wheels. DAS itself is not a "moveable aerodynamic device", the only moving components which are unique to DAS are entirely within the car. The only "aerodynamic devices" which DAS moves (the front wheels) are also moved in the same plain by a normal steering system. Same with the argument that it constitutes suspension adjustment; if rotating the front wheels around the hub spindle constitutes "adjustable suspension", steering is illegal. Hence why the FIA had to explicitly ban the system from next year - it does nothing which is against the current regulations. You could argue that it breaks the spirit of the rules, but breaking the spirit of the rules without breaking the letter is what F1 is all about.
ETA: I'm absolutely certain that Redbull knew the system would be deemed legal; they were just fishing for information.

Don't you just love Whinger Horner! So their protest was dismissed. Don't man up and say "so be it at least we know," Whinge on about how the decision is wrong and he is confused why the FIA have said the system is legal..
..see my post from yesterday, a few pages ago..His soul is for sale to RBR, and will say/do anything to ensure his masters know how slavishly he will stay "on message" - RBR are an "honest" underdog team fighting the big guns of Mercedes and Ferrari all by themselves, regardless of how much cheating the others stoop to.
Of course, anything "grey" that RBR have resorted to in the past was completely legal and the FIA always validated that position, so Horner can speak from a position of moral authority.
As you suggest, all he needed to say was "we followed a legal process, got an answer, so that's the end of it", but no....

Oh latifi... That was an accident waiting to happen, he spent all day yesterday rehearsing it.
Last thing he or Williams needed.
Doesn't look like he's done too much damage. Hopefully Williams aren't so strapped for cash that they have no spare front wings. Last thing he or Williams needed.
He caught the rear quite heavily too, and no word yet on the gearbox.

frightening looking at the times the mercs have over the rest of the field
Indeed. If anyone is sandbagging they'd better stop soon. (Jokes - I hope..)

I'm not saying that I welcome such a big gap.. but from Mercedes point of view part of competing F1 is designing a car that performs as well as they can make it, whilst remaining within the regs and formula. They are supposed to innovate, and they have 'out-innovated' their competitors. It's a valid enough way to improve their own chances of winning.
As I said however, the gap, if it is indeed half a second, isn't great from a fan perspective. That's unfortunate if it's the case. Luckily just below Mercedes there is a big group of cars looking ready to battle it out across the season, which is good.
I didn't intend to criticise Merc in any way at all. They've done what they are supposed to do. If anything, my criticism is of the other teams for not doing so well. My worry is that if, as seems likely, Merc will dominate qually and probably the race, unless the Merc-engined cars get in each others' ways, then at other circuits the gap will be much larger. At Bakku, second race of the season, Ferrari locked out the front row, and the race for CLC until 10 laps to go. It made for an interesting period in 2019.
I'd like to see it this season as well.
