He'll serve his four year term. The real question is whether he'll win another. F1 might want Richards, and expect him to start building a campaign for election, but the FIA is global and that includes votes not swayed by FOM or Liberty. Richards ought to have support from the WRC, but WEC, Africa, India etc?
Yes, including entities like the Camping and Caravan Club.

I think Sulayem definitely went too far by suggesting the Liberty asset of the F1 license was 'overvalued'. That's clearly not acceptable - you don't flog someone something that a massive commercial operation is built upon and then tell the world it probably isn't really worth it..
It wasn't Ali or the FIA that "sold" F1 to liberty
Surely that is down the experts at Liberty and what they value the licence to be and the return in the short to mid term. Also trying damn hard to breakinto the USA and theyounger generation with all the social media.

I know, but Liberty license the sport to the commercial rights holders (Liberty), whose commercial operation is valued based on holding that license - it's nothing without it. Then Sulayem says that the commercial side of F1 is overvalued...

I mean... just don't go there! Don't talk about the commercial valuation of your own customer on global TV...

Basically.. sacked. But not technically sacked because 'it was the plan all along' and because the FIA never admit a mistake biggrin

But still essentially out of the job, having pissed off just about everyone on one level of or another. Good work and goodbye.

It's illegal for the FIA to get involved with the commercial side of F1.

It's illegal for the commercial side of the sport to get involved in the FIA rule setting platform.

Ross Brawns team potentially broke the law when they worked on the new regulations, which is why those people now work for the FIA and the group under liberty was disbanded.

This was a stipulation of the EU law makers when they forced the split formally of the governing and commercial rights holders, the FIA and commercial rights holders operate under that jurisdiction of law.

When MBS got involved in giving an opinion of the commercial value, he broke the EU law agreement, that is where the boot came from.

MBS has been on a massive ego boost world tour, front and centre at every GP last year. He outstayed his welcome and has caused agro with everyone from the drivers up. Very silly.

Wishful thinking I fear. Behind the scenes with an F1 representative that many, especially Mercedes, have had issues with in the past front and centre.

The three way tug of war between FIA, FOM and Liberty continues.

You'd have thought he would have learned from Masi - it's a bad idea to make the position about you. It seems to be a semi-regular occurrence these days.

He pretty much backed Masi. I'm not sure if he had an agenda, but the timing of the jewelery ban was odd after AD, 2021.......and then, just after Seb left, the ban on politics was equally odd.

I'm sure I am wrong, and as a Lewis fan I am maybe being overly critical...but at best it was questionable timing.

Terrible news. No one should ever have to bury their child.

Allegedly he interfered in the 2023 Saudi Arabia race and overturned Alonso's penalty.

The absolute state of this guy. Posting pics of him with Prince Andrew a few days ago, then pressuring Max to support Horner and now this, and that’s just within a few days.

Not sure it even qualifies as a sport any more TBH. More entertainment package / sports washing opportunity
