Nice one Phillipe stuffed it to the hun.

Now for the incessant winging

Who stuffed it to 'the Hun' as you so delightfully put it?

Also, no idea what 'winging' is.

If you mean 'whinging' then not from me as I think Bottas did brilliantly. In all honesty, I'd just rather see good racing - not so fussed on who wins as I don't really see the sense in disliking Vettel for being German (assuming that's what you mean by 'The Hun') or whatever.
And here come the sjw contingent.
I'm sensing you aren't the brightest so lets just leave it at that and let the thread be about the racing, eh?

We all know that the Finns have a great history in Motorsport (not just F1) but have we ever had two Finns on the same podium before?

Even when Seb was closing Bottas down, there was no chance of a pass even though he had nearly a second a lap more pace.
Didn't you allow yourself just a little bit of hope? I know what you mean, but Bottas had tyre problems with flat spots. He was under pressure and although Bottas is pretty calm, he'd obviously already taken one risk.

Just a little rise in pulse-rate?

Hungary - 2008, according to James Allen...

It happened once in 2007 and a couple of times in 2008 with Kimi and Heikki Kovalainen.

All I have to say is thankyou very much channel 4, open the web page with the race on it after avoiding radio and the internet all afternoon - to meet a page with video's titled "lights out in sochi", "last lap chace" and "bottas joins the F1 winners club"....

I suppose I should be grateful - saves me watching the race to find out... but what the hell are they thinking about!

good point

my first thought was when Mika Salo stood in for Michael Schumacher @ Ferrari in 1999 (obviously Mika Häkkinen was WDC that year so a good chance)
oddly, the 2 races that Salo finished on the podium MH, failed to finish

can't think of any other instances when it might have happened
Räikkönen came after Häkkinen

ok, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008_Malaysian_Grand...
Räikkönen 1st, Kovalainen 3rd

drat - beaten to it ..

If we were to consider Nico Rosberg Finnish it has happened a lot more frequently.

It needed a large mistake from Bottas and I think he was aware of how tough it was to pass (he'd been held up behind back markers that he was 2 seconds a lap faster than!)

Seb did very well to dip below a second and get DRS 2 or 3 times. But honestly, without a major error (and with no real pressure because Bottas new Seb couldn't get close enough to even think about a pass), I really couldn't see a pass.

Combination of desperate circuit, and regs that make close following very challenging (I like the extra mechanical grip, but not the extra aero).

Lap chart of today's race:

Can anyone spot an overtake not pit stop related?
I tried counting the passes on that image and kept getting lost.
To be fair, that only shows the position as they cross the line each time. It doesn't show any overtakes that are then lost again. I don't know how many there were, and it wasn't a great race IMHO (not too keen on that circuit) but it's worth remembering what you're looking at.

Is Sochi second only to Valencia for the world's most boring track? I nodded off for 10 laps and felt disappointed is not slept for double that....

Sums it up! Bloody awful "race" until the last few laps when it seemed Vettel might be able to catch Bottas.

I agree that without a big Bottas mistake or mechanical, Vettel was never going to pass- but what impressed me about Vettel was how he pushed through the dirty air to close the gap to 0.8 seconds, Massa intervened and it opened up to 1.4 but in the space of half a lap Vettel had the gap down to 0.6. I bet Bottas was properly rattled by how quickly the red car was once again filling his mirrors.

Put this page in your bookmarks - this is a safe page where you can catch-up without reading the result - but click carefully - you probably don't want to watch live reaction.....

Seb was good with the interview from Jordan when asked about Massa - certainly a more grown up Seb than a few seasons ago.

He certainly seems much happier when in winning car. Compare this Seb to the one hit by Kvyat or stuck behind Vestappen.
