Exactly. But after seeing the 2018 new lap record by Ricciardo I doubt anyone will be able to pass in the 2018 race.

Yes obviously the lower slower teams but the top 6 cars will only pass when it comes to pit stops.

Sad.

Pedant alert- sorry - but official lap records are only set in races .

Re Tarzan , I attended the very last Dutch GP at Zandvoort and what an odd place it was. A bit like Mablethorpe , on the North Sea , set in sand dunes and near deserted during practice (no 'qually 'then ). Great chips too . We watched the race at Scheivlak , and practice from Tarzan to wherever we could walk - most of the way round I think ?

With mayonnaise! A culture shock for a young northern lad.

The Porsche *almost* came down on its wheels; don't imagine it would have been able to carry on though.

Watching the Nissan come down hard on the cockpit roof like that, ouch...

Martin Brundle was very lucky in this accident.

How his head/neck withstood that wheel hitting him is unbelievable.

I think watching Jos Verstappen flying through the air got many people attention. But I am amazed Brundle was not seriously hurt.

I remember Irvine getting a race ban for that which was then increased when he appealed biggrin

3 race ban IIRC?

Given some of the recent years incidents, the FIA are definitely more lenient these days in my view.

Nearer home , you may want to check out the colourful career of Tony Dean , who used to be my local 'under the arches' used car dealer in Castleford .He raced everything from Porsche and Ferrari sports prototypes to F5000 and F2 cars and was the only Yorkshireman to win a Can Am race - in his Porsche 908.

We all wondered how many third hand Cortinas he was selling to afford all this.. Customs found his transporter, coming back from racing in USA , was full of smuggled cigars. He enjoyed time to reminisce about his racing career at Her Majesty's pleasure

Brilliant.

Away to look him up.

It's stories like these that make things that little bit more interesting.

That’s it - 1 race ban increased to 3 after a misguided appeal - not that Eddies Jordan and Irvine are abrasive smile

So Eddie was punched by Senna in his first race, crashed out of his second, destroyed 4 cars in his third and was banned from fourth smile

And still went on to drive for Ferrari...
