It goes back longer than 15 years - the Lotus twin-chassis car - genius interpretation of the rules or a breach? Strangely every other team decided "breach". The Brabham fan car - banned on "safety grounds" - ie it spat up stones and other debris.
The fan car was not banned. Bernie agreed to withdraw it.Edited by RichB on Sunday 23 November 09:36

Cheers, not got access to sky here in Abu Dhabi so not up on which tyre is the best etc. so a short stint on the options then ?
Right, breakfast in Abu dhab mall across the road, then head to the track about 3pm local. Seats in the stand on the second Drs zone, will wave to all PH fans, let's hope for a legendary race and a lh win !
So you may also not be aware that Nico had to complete a second lap on his Q2 tyres which are used for the first stint toay. Hopefully, that may mean that Lewis gets a second lap for the undercut.Right, breakfast in Abu dhab mall across the road, then head to the track about 3pm local. However, I guess he will wait until they are on the second stint as he was an average 0.8s per lap quicker on the long runs in FP2 on the Softs.
Things are nicely poised for a great race.
I hope lewis goes for Rosberg and pushes to win, but I can't imagine in a million years he will risk his championship on it. He'll follow 1 second behind Rosberg UNLESS Rosberg falls off the pace in an effort to back Lewis into the rest of the pack.
If Lewis goes for it from the outset he'll go up massively in my estimation.

Lewis will either look to get past Nico at turn 1
or play the longer game and just pressure him into doing something silly.
Either way I hope he gets the WDC trophy, he has earned it this year.

- thus is all dependant on him not being nobbled by Mercedes management, so that they get a German win.....

I think the latter. He played the long game in Monza, Japan and Austin, and he's once bitten, twice shy about going wheel-to-wheel early on with Nico after Spa. The on-board from Russia showed as much.or play the longer game and just pressure him into doing something silly.

As for the tin-foil hat theory, I'm not sure the two Austrians and a Brit in charge of the F1 project care too much. Especially Niki.
I think Lewis will win assuming no big incidents/ pit lane problems. He keeps setting up his car a bit more oriented towards the race than Rosberg (hence despite the spin he caught up the 7 seconds in Brazil). The main problem is if he is behind Rosberg in the first corner - Rosberg could brake slightly early. That increases the chance of someone passing/ crashing into Hamilton from behind. However if Hamilton goes into the back of him he might get disqualified for taking him out (not data to compare with previous laps) "doing a Senna".
There's been more pages in this thread than some F1 weekends, and the race hasn't even started!

Should be an epic either way though!!

Actually I would be more impressed by Lewis if he did the smart thing, looked after his car and cruised to second place. If Lewis goes for it from the outset he'll go up massively in my estimation.

way I see it, Lewis starts on tyres that have been way less stressed than Nico's (he only did one relatively gentle lap on them with no lockups vs. Nico's 2 runs both with significant locking moments)
If this then translates to Lewis being able to run 2-3 laps longer at pace on them, this put's him on a different part of the track than Nico, and if he has any pace, should get him infront by the end...

Rosberg will have to try and keep Bottas and Massa in play for the first two laps. If he does, that's his only chance of getting a car between him and Lewis - unless bad fortune plays a part of course.
Part of me thinks Lewis is going to be ahead by turn 1 and Rosberg won't have the option of doing that

This ^^^^Pretty sure I heard Toto explain the difference in quali times between Nico and Lewis as a different approach and that "one driver" had his focus on the race, rather than quali
Bodes well for Lewis out-driving Nico in a couple of hours - would be good to see him take the WDC with an emphatic win, rather than just trailing Nico for the the required second place
I also agree with sentiments earlier in this thread that Merc have been particularly gracious in their dominance, whereas RedBull simply seemed to be arrogant during theirs. The opposite was also true - Merc seemed to be very focused and accepting when they were being dominated, but RedBull have spat their dummies out this year (with the exception of Daniel, who for me is the stand-out driver of the season - almost impossible not to like him, especially with some of the stunning driving skills he's shown)
I think LH is just going to go for it off the line.
He may be a professional but in situations like this you'd have to be a cerebral saint to not get the mist and give it some serious loud pedal. I hope he does.
A first corner LH incident followed by 90 minutes of him carving through the field from dead last for a 2nd place finish would be an epic end to this up and down season.
