Rich W's slightly excessive use of exclamation marks and emotions give me cause to believe he's not to be taken seriously

I'm definitely willing to believe that Bottas can outscore Hamilton if Lewis has a season like in 2014. That year he developed a supreme confidence that even if Rosberg got pole or the lead, that his superior race pace would prevail and he would often bully Nico in corners whilst Rosberg either backed off or defended clumsily.

I don't see Bottas being easy to push around given his spats with Kimi over the years. Lewis is going to need to show up for the next few races lest team orders begin to favour Bottas. I also think that it maybe shows Massa in a better light than many thought- he's made VB look ordinary on a few occasions where it's perhaps more the case that they were both driving the wheels of the car.

I feel a bit bad for Stroll looking like a fool and being creamed by the retiree, but not too bad. I bet Massa is loving it. I liked the congratulations he gave to Bottas before he made it to the room of awkwardness, too. hehe

Did Seb say anything about Massa taking a while to get out of the way, or was he more pragmatic out of the car?

Seb couldn't help himself moaning at length about Massa after the race and I'm pretty sure flipped the Brazilian the bird as he went past.

I don't blame Vettel for being a little miffed - but if it was Hamilton reacting in the same way, to a back marker of sorts; I think this thread would be twice as long!

And most of the extra length would be associated with fan boys claiming the back marker was involved in siome conspiracy to deny Hamilton!

After Hamilton apparently being quoted as saying Mercedes could need team orders to beat Ferrari this year, would be genuinely take those orders if it turned out to be Bottas in the hunt for the title? It'd certainly be interesting to see what happened in that scenario.

One sure thing - if Merc team orders favoured Bottas over Hamilton, then Hamilton woul dnot be in a Mercedes next year.

Actually, I'm not convinced he will be anyway.

omg EJ is embarrassing.
Agree. Embarrassing saying to Totto 'give him a 4yr contract and pay him what you should do'.

Hmmm stop please.
That felt really distasteful, it's the kind of comment that needs to be delivered right not to feel awkward or demeaning somehow.

I do hope alonso tells them to stuff it now and looks for another team.
Can't imagine the hotel with his room reservation for Barcelona are feeling confident... Although I'd love Fred to finally lose it and do a full monologue on the pit radio about the car, engine & team smile

Frankly i'll be surprised if he turns up to any more races - he's a superb driver in a terrible car; but cant wait to see him at Le Mans smile

Do you think "Mclaren reserve driver" is being used as a threat against some of the junior formula drivers to up their results?

Seb was good with the interview from Jordan when asked about Massa - certainly a more grown up Seb than a few seasons ago.
He certainly seems much happier when in winning car. Compare this Seb to the one hit by Kvyat or stuck behind Vestappen.
... or hammered by Ricciardo.

Selective stats don't tell the whole story.

Bottas (2014-16)

0 wins
0 Poles
2 front row starts
0 Fastest Laps
9 podiums
407 points

Massa at Williams in the same time (14-16)

0 wins
1 Pole
1 Fastest lap
5 podiums
308 points

Qualifying head-to-head:

Bottas 41-17 Massa
Bottas outscored Massa, yet most people on this forum are surprised that Bottas can beat Hamilton.

Good grief. Recorded it on the Sky box and watched later. For the first time ever, I fast forwarded through to the end from about lap 35, so that I could watch the BBC news at 10.00. The Sky subscription is looking shakier by the minute.

We did the same. I have been watching F1 since 1980 and that was the worst race I have ever seen. I could literally have been one lap.

I wouldn't go so far as to say it was the most boring Grand Prix since 1980 - but it wasn't great.

However, the lack of ability to follow and overtake was predicted by virtually anybody who knows anything - so it wasn't surprising.

Surely that is hyperbole? What about the 2005 US GP?

I think they have a decent season brewing up, but the main protagonists haven't really tangled yet. I didn't find it dull because I was watching Vettel trying to reel Bottas in. But agreed, there weren't too many thrills'n'spills

Yup! Then again, call me immature but Vettel's foul-mouthed four-letter rants are infinitely more amusing than the Lewis of old who would sulk and later explain how the felt somehow disrespected.

Can't remember a Good GP in Russia. the 2016 race came closest. The track is just too fast in the wrong spots.

There was overtaking and following fairly closely, in Australia and Bahrain. Vettel seemed to be able to follow closely yesterday. Other circuits and without Massa once again hampering Ferrari he might even have been able to attempt to overtake.

This was mainly down to Sochi being unfit for purpose as a GP circuit.
