Just watching Jeff Gordon celebrating a win at Martinsville, I reckon the FIA would have kittens if someone tried a polish victory lap ! smile

One interesting precedent it seems to set...

Reprimands aren't carried over season to season, IIRC. Given the fine, reprimand and stewards recognition of the "exceptional circumstances" - I hope that this allows all sealing of key moments to be celebrated in this way.

Slaps on wrist and spins allowed for : first win, WDC or beating Vettel without aid of safety car or rain.

I wonder if Ferrari are wondering if they hired the wrong Lotus guy... Grosjean has been awesome in recent races, I think his race craft and speed is as good as any current or former WDC on the grid.

Unless my memory is failing then Kimi would fall into this category.

His Ferrari was outclassed by the Mclaren in 2007 but because of the issues between Alonso & Hamilton together with a bit of shoddy strategy by the Mclaren team (China specifically) Kimi took the title.

Similarly James Hunt didn't have the best car in '76, but he was fortunate that Niki Lauda was out of contention for a while...

I guess the point is that often in the past the dominance of one team & driver was a bit more marginal, consider the season long battles between Damon Hill and Michael Schumacher for instance, or indeed the intra team battles between Senna and Prost, or even last year's battle between Vettel and Alonso, in those sorts of circumstance you can ignore the best car argument more easily when the contest is a close run thing.

All the best

Richard
Keke Rosberg.
Alain Prost in '86.

I'm sure Vettel would love to be a modern day Jim Clark taking part in and winning the Indianapolis 500, racing in Sports Cars, Saloon Cars and Formula two on non-grand prix weekends but alas he cannot and has not.

Clark would never have condoned Vettel's vulgar triumphalism. The finger would have appalled him.

Shame the British flag won't be shown on the podium.
Indeed and quite insulting to the people that work for the team. One reason I don't like RedBull.

Rubbish.

He has a team mate who he consistently destroys, race after race.

He has broken Alonso and Hamilton - they look like also-rans.
So you are saying its all Vettel, his car isn't any better than the others ? Oh dear......
The Red Bull is the best car, I'm not saying it isn't.

Tell me, how many champions can you name who didn't have the best car?

You make it sound like Alonso and Hamilton are driving cars with the speed of the Red Bull, quite pathetic really.
But both Hamilton and Alonso are not even dominating their supposedly inferior team mates. There are many who believe those two to be the best on the grid, with Vettel a notch behind them. I think it's the opposite - I think Vettel would beat allcomers even in the same car.

We just don't know that. Which is why I don't think Seb can truly be judged until he succeeds in another team. Alonso did it. Hamilton is doing it.

Seb needs to do it. Win with another team.

Then we will know.

On the bright side for Alonso, at least he can use the same helmet for the next race.

Adrian Newey.

Ten constructors' championships for three different teams. A statistic unrivalled by any driver or designer, ever. An achievement unmentioned on the telly.

I said that to my wife when we watched the race earlier. I thought it was a hollow celebration anyway due to the scoring system & amount of races in a season but things like this have always been said, for example Clark's 7 victories in a season record was broken by Senna in 1988 with 16 races instead of ten, although to be fair Senna still had (then) two time WDC Prost for a team mate.
Not that I'm a big Schumacher fan, but applying the current scoring system to all F1 races since 1950, Alsono has not even gained 2/3 of his Points. (Alonso 2414 vs. Schumacher 3890)
