Fair enough, I guess I'm telling myself that the conspiracy theorists have Mercs tripping each other up as opposed to Mercs interfering with the field to advantage the team or team mate. But I do accept your point.

And doing it twice to make it look convincing, and letting Lewis close him down and then get away.... Very convincing.

However, is it too much to think that today was just a day when Lewis was on it and Nico wasn't quite settled? There are two or three DNFs in this season for Mercedes yet, depends who gets them.

Good race today, once again Ricardo is making Vettel look amateur, great driving by Lewis, applied the pressure and see what happens, Perez performance with Button was also good driving, Man of the race for me has to be Lewis.

Brilliant race with loads of entertainment. Hamilton was awesome. Rosberg buckled under pressure (he's had plenty). Ric/Bottas superb. Wish the chavs would stop booing.

Eh? Vettel was screwed by a pretty poor strategy from Redbull to be honest. One place ahead facilitated by fresher tyres is hardly Ricciardo making him look like an amateur is it.

I'd say Bottas or Ricciardo (or even Perez). The Mercs are just to far ahead of anything else for them not to be a 1:2 every race (although Hamilton did a very good job hounding Rosberg).

One of the better races of the year. Good circuit, some great overtaking, Ricciardo was great, Perez v Button was good to watch too.

Hamilton was significantly better in every department than Nico - well, not EVERY department. Nico's Italian is better than Hamilton's...

LH mentioned a malfunctioning map that controls revs for starting....sounds like traction control to me.

Good race, I enjoyed it, glad the focus was on the battles for 4-10th places, made for good viewing.

I noticed Ricciardo posted the top speed, 362kmh, or 224mph in old money, impressive for a 1.6 litre engine hehe

Kvyat's save was just brilliant, I could see the marshalls scampering away!

A good win for Lewis, a better 1-2 for Mercedes, no wonder Toto was smiling!!

No, it just makes it easier to hold a certain RPM for the start.
In any case the ECU is a standardised part, so if he has it so does everyone else.

The inability to steady the RPM didn't cause the poor start, the problem was that the ERS system wasn't working which left him ~160hp down once he left the line.

Just to add a different slant to the conspiracy theory

F1, like all sports today, is a multimillion (billion) pound industry.

With that in mind, why not orchestrate the entire season?
Even without a tinfoil hat I'm starting to wonder - sometimes seems a bit Truman Show. We've got the continuing story lines between various rivals....

Vince McMahon to replace Bernie and welcome to WWF1!

If Rosberg lost the place because Lewis overtook him on track, it would make him look weak and an inferior racer

But now he can make it appear like he only lost the place because he made a braking error.......not a strong look but better than the alternative

Not messy ontrack and he picks up an easy 2nd while maintaining a healthy championship lead

.......biggrin

It's standard fair on a motorsport ECU. You map in the launch rpm and boost level and the required ramp in rate for peak torque the tyres can manage through the launch phase. You then hold full throttle before and throughout the launch stage, the ecu then controls the rpm, boost, ignition and fueling to produce the required torque level. The ECU will also integrate the torque from the ERS system too.

It's actually a torque reduction strategy, you produce less torque than is otherwise available to maximise traction. When you get it wrong you usually see too much wheel spin, but it looked like in Lewis's case this race the ERS torque wasn't fed in, so he had a lower torque output than was required which meant he was left behind.

If he comes second to Lewis in another couple of races he'll get very twitchy. Don't believe for a second that either of them will give away points cheaply. After Lewis's bad start, I think Nico will be smarting a little that Lewis was able to reel him in and then open a gap. But Nico is no mug and he's faster than he gets credit for .... There is a long way to go yet.
