But it is hard to ignore the fact that of those on the podium all were wearing black armbands just not Hamilton....
And yet Hamilton wrote a (clearly self-written) heartfelt message and posted it last night which many of the drivers have since shared. Up to him whether he wears an arm-band or not, frustrating that it's even noticed (or an issue), I'm also not a fan of the self-appointed poppy police. I don't need to wear something to declare something in public when I'm doing something out of the public eye which means so much more for that cause.ukaskew said:

Loved Perez and Albon going slow and playing after you out of La source to try and get the DRS on the last lap.
BUT is it just me who thinks Perez maintained the lead into T1 due to his cutting the corner at the bus stop?I enjoyed that, despite being crammed in my office with others for most of the race.
Gutted for McL and Norris. Terrible.
Glad for Norris.
If Ferrari had pitted Vettel earlier, he might have been able to get on terms with Bottas.
I don't think Hamilton would have been able to pass CLC, but it would have been fun to see him try.
I thought that they should have pitted LH earlier - not to mention treating the pit stop as important - and that might have given him enough.
The midfield battle was tremendous, and all through the race. It's such a shame that we didn't see enough of it. Without live timing, I would have missed it all. There were people pointing towards the live timing screen in my office all through the race.
Hamilton increases his lead, despite being up against two faster cars.
Poor race from Verstappen. How many times do we hear that no race is won at the first corner. There's any number that have been lost there though. You can't overtake two cars into La Source. He might have been the car to stir things up a bit, especially if e'd gone long on his first set of tyres. Decent race from Albon, enough to give him some confidence for the remaining eight races.
Monza next week, supposedly another slam dunker for Ferrari. What happens between the two drivers might well be revealing.

I was brought up during a ‘bad’ era for fatals in Grand Prix racing...
Most surprising thing of the whole weekend is this post for me, you must be in your 60s or late 50s at best I reckon. Yet you bh about HAM on here like a fourteen year old schoolgirl-I honestly thought from your posting style you were a kid! A great weekend of racing for those of us at the circuit, tragic accident last night excluded of course. Much easier work today without the hot sun but a great race. GIO fell off in front of us and I honestly think without that HAM might just have had a go into the last chicane (what do they call it now?).
We got picked up straight after so will catch up with all the post race stuff when we get back to the UK on Tuesday.
Spa, what an awesome place

Not all the drivers were wearing them. Seen in the lineup before the race Grosjean and Kyvyat didn't wear one either. But it is hard to ignore the fact that of those on the podium all were wearing black armbands just not Hamilton....

Missed most of it with a dodgy stream
Hamilton showing his class again. Relentless at the end there and could have got that done with a few more laps.
Vettel holding him up enough to help out his teammate.
Albon was very impressive. Max......
Thankfully we had a race and no one got hurt. The thought of what happened yesterday and then this being the 1st of September seemed a bit too close to Imola memories.
Yes, 1st of May and 1st of September is different but I had a horrible feeling.
Leclerc will be delighted. Hamilton will be as well considering he has extended his Championship yet again.

Good race all round today, midfield battle didn't stop from lap 1 til the end, crap end for Norris, Renault have managed to st on every one of their cars races this weekend massively. Couldn't have been a better debut for Albon after starting with the grid penalty, team got the strategy right and he did what he needed to do to get the job done with the soft tyres.

Dawned on me too this morning. Watching the build up I did have a worry or two.Hamilton showing his class again. Relentless at the end there and could have got that done with a few more laps.

But thankfully all came back safe today. The minute silence and the applause on lap 19 were very emotional.

I can see LeClerc developing into the Prost of his generation, and Verstappen into the Senna of his generation.
(I mean in the sense of their attitude to racing).
It bodes well for the future.
The more I see of Charles LeClerc, the more he reminds me of Prost - drama-free qualifying laps which put him atop the time sheets, level-headed with superb racecraft, and a rather engaging modesty.(I mean in the sense of their attitude to racing).
It bodes well for the future.
His victory today was overdue, which seems a strange thing to say about a driver in only his second season at the top level, and his first in a team with a chance of winning races, and it was a welcome high point in a weekend clouded with tragedy.
A home win for Ferrari at Monza next weekend?

As you have said the minute silence was emotional to say the least but the applause on lap 19 was a fantastic idea. But thankfully all came back safe today. The minute silence and the applause on lap 19 were very emotional.
Great tribute.
It's terrible that we don't know a lot about a driver until something like this happens.
This was an interesting article on his career. Had to work for it.
