One thing is really starting to bug me. Why does seemingly everyone in the F1 paddock say "for sure" all the time.

It's been happening for a while now, and it's getting worse, for sure.
Never seen that mentioned before.

Schumacher started it in his early days and I assume it's because the literal translation of certainly in German is something like for sure.

We've had quite a few different winners this year. People seem to be implying RedBull have won every race from pole, which is hardly the case. If anything the RedBulls have been more consistent and made the most of every weekend.

I'm hoping for a grosjean win Sunday.

Watching the red bulls on tv is a yawn fest.
Watching them live is something else. At monza sat in alta velocita 6b there was a white line on the track opposite where I was sitting. Every time vettel hit that line I started counting seconds,he was ripping 1 to 1.5 seconds per lap out of second place before the first set of pit stops. It really is amazing to watch when everyone else is struggling behind to keep up..

It was literally " crescendo of an f1 car" vettel , followed up by many seconds later of more screaming cars all at once one after another.

I said it to my dad at the time in the stand, vettel in that red bull, it really is a race of one.. If that makes sense to anyone.

I just watch P2- onwards. Some great racing this year. It's best not obsess on P1 and revel in the quality of drivers we have right now.

Schumacher started it? It was being said by F1 drivers before Schumacher was born, let alone in F1.

confused Really?

Anyway, I've never seen any footage of the likes of Fangio, Moss or Clark saying it nor do I recollect G Hill, Hunt, Lauda or Stewart saying "for sure" so I would say on this occasion that unless you can demonstrate otherwise I stand by my statement.

I think "for sure" was made popular by Scandinavian rallyists from the 80s...

Record it.

Watch the opening laps when there is most of the action. After lap 6 or 7 they start tyre saving.

Watch the rest at 6x speed.

Pause , rewind and go back to normal speed if anything interesting happens.

You should be able to watch the whole race in about 15-20 minutes while still seeing the good bits.

Lovely. Can't wait.

God I hope there is a safety car. At least then they won't be told to short shift and limit their revs to conserve fuel. Bloody ridiculous.

It could be so , so SOOO much better than this..

Someone has to offer some balance to the True Believers or Bernie will think that nothing needs improving.

I am performing a public service. You'll thank me one day. wink

Probably "genau", the Boche say it all the time. Its not an exact translation of for sure, but in the context it's close enough.

Schwarzenegger has always said 'for sure' ever since a camera was thrust into his face from the 70's onwards.
Isn't he Austrian?

I believe the full Scandi phrase was "maximum attack, for sure"

I'm pretty sure it's part of their media training, every major sport does it; tennis, gol, etc

Once again, tyre strategy is going to dominate proceedings.

it is the only major variable at play here.

If RB get the tyre strategy wrong, we'll have a race on our hands.

If RB get the tyre strategy right this can be another demonstration run for them, a case study in how to dominate in F1. And good for them.
