I'm hearing rumblings from the Malaysian side of things, putting a lot of pressure on parties to at least avoid attending (difficult in practice to do, I know).
The latest admissions today by the Russian-backed separatists won't help things either.
On the Bernie and money subject, he may be looking at losing at least one race fee next year if he pushes too hard for the Russian GP to go ahead. Contract or not, when politics at this level is involved contracts tend to be easily ignored.

Bernie tends to work on the "it's easier to seek forgiveness than ask permission" approach.
Do as you like and then "manage" the fallout afterwards.
It's the most profitable approach.
Not that the money matters to him anymore, it's just about winning now.
Maybe he plans on making his horror of a daughter the richest woman in the World.
Like I said - Bernie doesn't care.Do as you like and then "manage" the fallout afterwards.

Horner pretty adamant that it's not for the teams to decide.

(even though the question is about Azerbaijan I'm sure the answer also applies to Russian)

I don't see how they can really stop it for supporting a side in a conflict. The Israeli's have just killed near a thousand Palestinians getting to Hamas, yet are repeatedly backed by the US and have been for years. The same US who invaded Iraq and killed tens/hundreds of thousands and still has Guantanimo Bay open as I type. Should the FIA "Punish" America with the removal of its GP, too?
When a government is mowing down its own population in the street, that's pretty straightforward. But I don't see how the FIA can get poltical about the sides a government chooses.

Whether correct or not I think it is different when considering a new race location versus an existing one. I think the circumstances of each case have to be considered on their merit. The USA race for example dont appear to have the active support of the President of the United States, however the Russian race would appear to have the active support of Putin etc. When a government is mowing down its own population in the street, that's pretty straightforward. You dont see the US, UK, and many other locations using the race to promote their politicans in the same way as no doubt Putin will. I know that they have been to Bahrain but that doesnt mean that it is right.

If just one of those team leaders in that press conference thought it was terrible when that plane was shot down then they should be ashamed of themselves because they are allowing themselves to be involved in an event that promotes the regime that pulled the strings of the people that shot it down.
Load of sheep.
If the question is related to the downing of the plane, without hard evidence how could a decision be made?
If its on the aiding of the Ukraine rebels / invasion, well as mentioned should we have stopped racing in the US when they went into Afghanistan / Iraq?
Its not a question of turning a blind eye to the political problems, but rather where is the line drawn? Are there legitimate F1 fans who really want to see this race and who do not agree with how their country is run but have no way to express that?
It'll be interesting to see how it unfolds...

My inclination is towards the view that it should be cancelled as otherwise Putin will just carry on and believe no one will ever take action against him but at same time not sure I want a race cancelled.
Should European races be cancelled as otherwise the EU will just carry on and believe no one will ever take action (against its continuing eastward expansion)?Esseesse said:

Yes, and all the people who have supported the push east should be held to account, it was allways going to end it tears,Gassing Station | Formula 1 | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
