Its a shame that Pembrey didn't ever get the investment it needed because its actually a good circuit with no danger of noise complains from locals but facilities are dreadful. It's not too far from me and I have often popped down to watch various things testing there including F1 up to about the late 90s.Pembrey was of course the location for the now famous Senna/Prost bust up with Ron Dennis during testing at the circuit in '89. The previous race was held at Imola (coincidentally) and they had a race start agreement in place that whoever got to Tosa corner first would win. That was all well and good until a full race restart was needed and Senna then passed Prost. Prost understandably felt like the gentleman's agreement was broken but Senna with his true racers mentality felt it only applied to the first race start so took advantage.. The Senna/Prost relationship was over for good after that meeting in the Pembrey paddock according to Dennis.

Anyone know how many , unless it's changed again , spectators will be here ?
I saw tickets on sale a few weeks ago ,also at way more sensible prices than Mugello were .
I hope they have tidied some of the bleachers up ,this time last year some of them were over grown with weeds .
None. Closed doors event. 😩 I live in Imola, very sad for that.I saw tickets on sale a few weeks ago ,also at way more sensible prices than Mugello were .

Confirmed that Imola will be behind closed doors with no spectators allowed.
They were expecting up to 13,000 fans so a lot of disappointed ticket holders but probably for the best considering how bad the first wave was in Italy.
It's looking pretty ropey in Europe right now (and here, too). We might have seen the last spectator GP this season already. They were expecting up to 13,000 fans so a lot of disappointed ticket holders but probably for the best considering how bad the first wave was in Italy.
One wonders how protected the circuits are if local rule changes prevent spectators after they've paid their hosting fee. I'd hope there are terms for that eventuality, but who knows? They might have paid on a wing and a prayer they wouldn't have to disappoint and refund thousands of people.

The draft 2021 calendar is being shared with teams this week- it looks very similar to the original 2020 schedule (according to Autosport)
That would be a shame. One of the very few good things to have come out of the covid mess is that F1 has shown that it can cope without lugging all the hositality crap back and forth around the world, double headers at the same track do work, small tracks work, and that the teams can adapt. Why can't some weekends be two days, some three, some maybe even four. I really hope F1 sieze the chance to make the calender both more interesting and busier. I'd be happy to watch 30 races a year.Personally I am loving the new circuits, and 2 day weekends would add even more variables to the mix.
What other tracks in Europe could be added?

As soon as there was any investment, people would have bought land around it, and then complained about the noise. I went to see a friend of a friend who'd self-built a house in West Kingsdown, right by the outer perimiter fence, where land was cheap - I wonder why - and did nothing but complain about the noise and motorcyclists climbing a tree in his garden. What happened to buyer beware?

Turkey are trying to get fans in, but Bahrain and AD are definitely closed events. One assumes that there’s sufficient flexibility in the contracts this year, such that events won’t be cancelled if the situation changes on the ground. AIUI the first few 2020 events were promoted by F1 themselves, renting the tracks.

Chase was a guest on the virtual paddock club last weekend, I asked him specifically if given the huge success of e.g. Mugello was there any way some could be included next year. As above he said due to contracts in place it would not be possible hence calendar similar to original 2020. :-(
Given they're doing 17 tracks in 5 months this year, they could easily do 22-30 in 10 months and add a few fan specials which can't afford hosting fees, like Mugello, Portimao, maybe Interlagos in the future.Piginapoke said:

Thanks for that. Pedant corner- do you mean the 2008 Ferrari is owned by Schumacher?
Good pedanting! It's his 2008 F1 car but I don't know who owns it now. They ran it limited to something like 12500 revs to prolong engine life for most of the season without a strip down otherwise it would need every race, but even then, it out performed everything else, but then it was up against old Bennetons, Arrows etc.
One of Massa's cars was up for sale
https://www.dkeng.co.uk/ferrari-sales/465/Blue_Chi...
Didn't Schumacher have a deal that he kept one of every car?
