It’s a unique design to date.

Flexi wing

Other designs

See the highlighted area that has been removed.

Good shot of the wing

A flexible wing would allow for far greater slow speed (corner exit) downforce without the subsequent high speed drag deficit.

RB will be missing their flexibull wing!
If the new one is actually less flexible, rather than being a different design for another reason. Do we actually have any sort of confirmation of that?
Visually it doesn't appear to move significantly. Pretty sure they've decided to give up on that particular avenue of development...

Are you saying they won't be ruling the bends?

WIll be interesting to see how things progress assuming the track gets less slippery and the times come down.

Nice to see Ferrari hopefully in the mix again with Red Bull and looks like McLaren have some pace as well.

Presumably Mercedes are also faster than they currently look ...

Norris was on an absolute flyer before his spin, the Mclarens look very quick. Ferrari look surprisingly quick too considering their strengths seem to be in the slower speed corners, impressive.

Mercedes playing it cool, can't see anything other than a straight shootout between Hamilton and Verstappen for pole and the race win.

Thoroughly looking forward to this one!

Both Norris and Ricciardo looking good - DR has run well here, hopefully they can both have a good weekend and pull a really strong points haul for Mclaren.

Early days, lets see what happens later on!

Ah crap, Johnny 'sort of' Herbert is back, that'll be me not watching any of the pre or post sessions on TV then.

37 none drs overtakes in 2019 apparently - pretty impressive!

Good to see F1 return to Baku.
If there really were that many then you'd have thought they'd show more than one of them in the official highlights reel. I could only count close to that number if you include cars passing another that is limping back to the pits with damage, or passing a car that has overshot down an escape road, plus the usual jostling in the first couple of corners after the start. Otherwise it was all DRS passes on long straights.

Mazepin continuing this session, as he finished the last; winning friends on the track.

I half missed the radio comments

... only caught Sainz telling the team he was going to bail out of his lap and give Mazapin extra space

Think drivers are going to start paying for their own damage due to cost caps

..Mazepin came past Sainz at the end of his (Mazepin's) fast lap attempt, as Sainz was starting his, but instead of slowing and letting Sainz past before the 1st corner, he stayed on it, and blocked Sainz into the 1st corner - didn't look like much, but would have robbed Sainz of downforce / created dirty air into turn 1, and then he slowed down after the 1st corner.

That's when Sainz said he now give him more space.
