I believe he was also a steward at one of the last 4 races of last season but I can’t find any details to confirm.
Brazil: Tim Mayer, Matteo Perini, Vitantonio Liuzzi, Roberto Pupo Moreno
Qatar: Garry Connelly, Tim Mayer, Emanuele Pirro, Amro Al Hamad
Saudi Arabia: Garry Connelly, Silvia Bellot,Vitantonio Liuzzi, Hassan AlAbdali
AbuDhabi: Garry Connelly, Felix Holter, Derek Warwick, Mohamed Al Hashmi

I don't think he is a current driver steward (or ever has been)?

It's not often you see racism quite so overt as that these days.

Annoyingly the major news outlets don't report what's said these days so you have to go digging for what actually happened. I think they should print it as said next to his picture.

Make him own his words.

Vile behaviour and I hope he’s banned from the paddock.

I did find one outlet that was prepared to actually report what he said.

I would quote the relevant paragraph but we still have the woolly Rule 16 in the Rules of Posting.

Suffice to say, he was apparently speaking in Portuguese and there are two ways of taking the word he used; one is very racist and the other is an affectionate term for someone who is family or a very close friend. Since Piquet does not have such a relationship with Hamilton we can assume the former.

TL;DR - Basically he used the N-word.

Piquet should be banned from attending any F1 event. Wonder how Verstappen will handle the questions about his girlfriends father

I can just imagine Max's reaction upon hearing about this knowing he'll be on the receiving end of a bunch of questions about it... "FFS Kelly, your dad is a dick!!!!"

Which organisation was responsible for the podcast, have they issued an apology as they ultimately decided it was fit for public consumption?

Hamilton just lives rent free in the old bigots and detractors heads.

First Jackie Stewart.

Then Bernie saying he is not putting in effort and Toto should get rid of him.

Now you got Piquet going on about Silverstone calling him a N, why are they even discussing it who cares that was past year totally irrelevant for this year.

Rent free.

Don't really understand the 'rent free thing' but putting that aside;

Doesn't really matter when it occurred, the fact is that it did occur.

There's a chasm between the misplaced views as to Hamilton's commitment put forward by long-retired personalities and the use a term of racist abuse towards him.

In any normal circumstance, such action would see you fired.... which interestingly is what Red Bull have done with their reserve driver Juri Vips for the same offence.... not fired as such but suspended.

Although it has nothing to do with Verstappen or Red Bull, the association that exists via Kelly Piquet will make for some interesting questioning.

Hamilton is rightfully very pissed off and is using his twitter profile to say so.

I didn't like Piquet the bloke as his behaviour and comments at the time he was teamed with Mansell and at other times was offensive. He was a dream in the beautifully prepared Brabhams he drove. A natural. I saw him take Paddock as if it wasn't there.

He was never subtle. His use of the racist word was deliberate. He must have known that such a pejorative comment would eventually emerge and he's enjoying the fuss. Nasty bit of work.

I am very confident he won't easily get a pass any longer. In fact I would be surprised if he ever got one again.

He will have a lifetime pass on the basis that he is a (multiple) past world champion so FOM would have to revoke that....

hopefully the 'we race as one' comes into sharp focus, and every driver condemns this putrid comment and the FIA/Liberty tell him never to appear again.
