I dont think any engines were actually blown up as such, just got run at full throttle an awful lot. Its not a new thing in F1 it happened at the end of the v10 era as well its just now in this modern age of Twitter and Facebook we are hearing about it in real time.
Yep, pretty normal F1 fun and games for the last race of the season;http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kApVM30AoUo
Probably a repost but it still makes me smile when Arrows tried to break their old Asiatech, I recall they managed to set the fire alarm off with this much to the annoyance of the Suzuka officials.
Is there any reason they are destroying the engines??
Is it not like killing off future motor sport history,in 20 years these cars will be at Goodwood Festival of Speed.
I would have thought with Mark retiring, and SB record collecting they would have brokered a deal to keep these cars as they were, for themselves.

The engines will be spent and good for scrap anyway. Is it not like killing off future motor sport history,in 20 years these cars will be at Goodwood Festival of Speed.

They'll have spare engines, some of which probably in a less highly tuned state will be mated to the cars for future "classic" show off work which given the enormous complexity of running one of these cars (eg full support crew, fully warming the engine before starting, specialist oils etc) would be pretty limited I'd have thought.

They will probably keep 1 or 2 I guess? Is it not like killing off future motor sport history,in 20 years these cars will be at Goodwood Festival of Speed.

These engines are scrap. They've done 1,000 miles or more which is very high mileage for an F1 engine; back in the turbo era it was normal to go through at least two engines a race - one was for qualifying which was specced to (hopefully) last just 12 laps!Is it not like killing off future motor sport history,in 20 years these cars will be at Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Renault will have a bunch of engines left over, and I wouldn't be surprised if they're produced to a "demonstration spec" with lower compression to make them last longer.
I wonder how high those engines were revving with the limiters removed?

They should let them remove all the restrictors, tune them to the max and send them out for a couple of laps to see what they could really do. MonkeyHanger said:

Yay Max. You are the most consistently slow driver over a season in F1 history.

How many of their engine 'allowance' do they usually get through anyway? I noticed it goes down from 8 to 5(?) next season.
Which does seem even crazier for unproven power plants. Keeping it at 8 and then phasing it after year 2 would seem more pragmatic.Next years title to be decided on reliability, not on outright quail / race pace nor wins?
