Even if he doesn't win, massive respect to Fernando... and I'm wondering if he will be back in F1 next year. Looks like he is having a lot of fun and would love to see him in a non-oval race.

The thing that worries me is if he is doing too much early in the race. No idea as not watched oval racing before, just from what they say. Seems like Alonso is generally trying to get to the front all the time.

Yeah he looks like he's doing well. Maybe button might give this a go?

Nah, he is being clever and knowing exactly when to hang back. Clearly learning the track, traffic and the draft and being very sensible about it.
Providing he finishes (it is a Mclaren badge and Honda engine after all hehe) he is in with a real shot at winning

Great turnout at the track. All the practice sessions had adverts for all the after track events. Looks like it's a big event once the race finishes.

It's a totally different set of strategies and style than I'm used to... okay so far, good to try.

Once you are there, I understand it is very affordable. Locals are very friendly and chilled as well (having spent time in Indianapolis). Not a lot to see but worth a few days either side.

Or fly in to Chicago and hire a car and explore a bit. Chicago is a pretty nice city.

reminds me a bit of the Tour de France....
There are those wanting to run and the Peleton who gradually catch up... it's knowing when and how to move/break...

Cheapest race day ticket for this year was a mere $40.
Even the most expensive grandstand was $118.

The regular BT Sport Indycar commentators ( Keith Collantine & Oliver Webb ) are much much better than this frown

Try NASCAR especially if Fox are broadcasting. I'm used to it now but I couldn't stop laughing when I first started to watch - I thought Ricky Bobby was exaggeration, turns out not so much.

So why aren't the regular commentators there for what must be the showpiece event of the series?

Great restart by Fernando.
Not sure if it's the car setup as car/track conditions change, but he is doing a lot better on them than earlier in the race.
