2011 Canada & Hungary GP Button was not the first to pit for slicks; Hungary he pitted before Lewis even though LH would have been given priority for leading.

It sure was perhaps his worst race and it was due to not feeling well.

However, his save with his second spin preventing the car from hitting the barrier was very impressive.

Something Bottas just could not work out in such a fast spin.

Lewis is very special.
Different situation, Bottas was further into the corner, spun at a higher speed than HAM.

Hamilton's turning left while going backwards and then adjust when facing forward again which stopped him from hitting the barrier.

Bottas just kept the steering straight which cost him dearly.

I find people like you hilarious. It must be so hard being that bitter...and even harder being you, knowing that every time Lewis gets in the car he’s going to piss you off once again. What a sad life
Although, having a forum circle jerk over someone you've never met every time there's a GP on is no less sad.

What an astonishingly stupid comment. Appreciating and discussing a truly exceptional talent is not a 'circle jerk' and if we only discussed people we've actually met here it would be a pretty quiet place.

Plank.

I've met him twice. Not exactly in circumstances where I would say I can make any real judgements about anyone as a person. Superficially in the same forum he struck me as more genuine than Nico and Valteri respectively BUT importantly they were not talking in their first language.

Appreciating talent is not circle jerking.

Yes there are fanboys out there that take it to the max, but most of Hamilton’s plaudits are warranted for his on track exploits, and frankly I’d far rather have a forum full of “circle jerking” (as you’d put it) over a forum full people bhing about Someone they’ve never met every time there’s a GP on.

Well, your jumping to Hamilton's 'defence' if anyone dares to put forward an alternative opinion would appear to put you firmly in the circle.

I just don't understand Hamilton fans.

If anyone dares to suggest that he may not be the best, suggest he makes mistakes or even highlight that he's a bit stroppy when not winning... and if you dare to suggest that he's been fortunate to be with the most dominant team of all time, then his 'fans' get all stroppy and shout you down.

Absolutely no balance. Utterly tribal and no better than many football fans.

This is the nature of sport and Hamilton is one of the most polarizing figures in F1, I would guestimate around half the population acknowledge he's an excellent driver but also a bit of a princess - although that may have increased since Hockenheim.

Do we think Lewis would demand privacy from the Netflix show and his man-flu suffering had he been victorious in Germany ?

Has anyone here actually had the 'flu? It was as much as I could do to make it downstairs to get a Lemsip, I was so weak. If he really did a full GP weekend with it, that's pretty amazing.

Did you manage to get back upstairs ?

You can run a half marathon with man-flu and sweat it out.

Women's flu is more dibilitating

I did make it back, and my bed is on the third floor of my house, so it is actually quite a long way!

I am guessing from your username that it would not affect you at all, and would anyway be pretty small beer to you having survived your first night on the planet left on a hillside.smile

I’m jumping to Hamilton’s defence because the rubbish sprouted on here from the message I quoted that was utterly absurd.

You will find tribal fans from all sides, Vettels and Alonso have their fair share which swear blind they are the messiah and aren’t to blame for any of their issues.

Truth is all drivers are stroppy, they all make mistakes and all multiple world champions are a bit fortunate to end up in decent teams.

It’s also true that to be the best you have to be stroppy and self centred, you will make mistakes when you are on the edge and it’s more good judgment and talent rather than fortune that gets you the top drives.

My ex Brother in law raced his F2 sidecar outfit with a broken collar bone once. He took a saw to the plaster so he could get a bit more movement. I don't think you'd get away with that these days laugh

Bono is worth his weight in gold to Lewis. I hope he is paid very well.
you can't plaster cast a collar bone can you? ...i drove to local A&E when i did mine, one handed & using my knee on the steering wheel when changing gear (unsurprisingly i wasn't allowed to drive home)
Probably could then. Got to be 30 years ago now. He had a plaster cast all round his shoulder that he took a saw to so he could get on the outfit properly. Luckily his leathers weren't a tight fit laugh

When I was 15 I had a skiing accident which resulted in a fracture and dislocation of my shoulder. They literally put my whole upper body in plaster, minus my good arm and head!

That was in 1986, they probably don't do that anymore.

I'm exceedingly impressed.

We have a member who, if he were to earn LH levels of pay, would choose to pay c£40,000 per day in tax and live in Stevenage. He could join the weekly car cruise ensuring he socialises with those of his own kind. Bravo!

I'm sure most people would choose to move to Monaco and keep the daily c£40,000 saved for themselves. Such a terrible choice.

Not only missing out on the tax break but missing socialising with all the other F1 drivers who live there (for tax purposes).

Good to hear you managed to ascend all the stairs.

You are far closer to describing my brother. He's on another level in the middle of harsh hostile terrain while carrying flu and full backpack with all the trimmings

I’m not familiar with his personal tax affairs but anyone who travels as much for their work as LH does will have very complex returns to do in a lot of countries - some like Canada are really rigorous even if you work there for a day. And given he has a house in Colorado (I believe?) then he will be filing US returns - and the US taxes on worldwide income no exceptions. So I doubt he has a huge tax break by not being a UK resident anymore. But I’m sure lots of expert will be able to correct me.

You’re pretty spot on. Add to that the way sports contracts work for athletes and he will be paying tax in each country on the salary/ winnings for those races
