Pastor Maldonado gets a 10 place penalty for a 6th ICE being fitted.

Saturday race vetoed by promoter Honda. They could still run early on Sunday but it now appears the worst of the typhoon will hit in the early hours of Monday, so at the moment the race will start at the original time. Whatever they do, the race is pretty much guaranteed to be wet, very wet.
Reminder of the rules: they need to run 2 laps for half points, these can be behind the safety car. Full points if 75% race distance is run.

Latest prediction:

43 years ago today Francois Cevert won his only race at Watkins Glen, two years later the same track took his life.

Does Fred have a driving style? He seems to spend a lot of his time fighting the car and dragging it round I have completly forgotten what sort of car he perfers.

I guess they could go for a tight car that JB would like and let Alonso just man handle it about and still do well lol.

In his Benneton days he use to seem to take every corner at full lock because of massive understeer if I recall correctly. Don't know if that was his preference or a feature of that car.

hehe they showed the onboard after the session which looked even more scary than the track camera, you can hear him nail the throttle in between the swings to sort it out.

Alonso to McLaren
- I remember seeing Ron Dennis, Sam Michael and Eric Boullier on the pit wall this year talking about their drivers. Sam Michael was explaining how JB was able to give direct feedback whilst Mag wasn't so good and needed the info teased out. I think this is what will swing it JBs way, as they'll need all the help possible in the early McLaren/Honda days.

Vettel to stay with RB
- He knows he needs to take on the challenge and re-establish himself in the team even if it's only for a year. He also takes the opportunity to assess whether Ferrari have got their act together in 2015.

Bianchi to Ferrari
- Ferrari partner Bianchi & Rai in a sort of holding pattern. Rai retires in 2015 opening the way for a Vettel - Bianchi pairing. Bianchi gets a years integration ensuring there's continuity when Rai retires.

My thoughts.

BBC saying the threat of a typhoon is reducing, if we get a dry race now I'll be quite annoyed.

Yes I saw the on-board, in my head it was "that's nice a slide I've got this." "Oh f**k", "oh phew"...

if I were Ferrari I would be trying to tempt Ricciardo, not Vettel

Latest I've read is that worst of the typhoon will be on Monday (and may affect travel to Russia), but there will still be persistent heavy rain on Sunday.

Seems more likely if the Alonso/Mclaren/Honda rumours are true...
Ferrari must be mad if they think that SV can do a better job than FA.

Perhaps FA is of the opinion that Ferrari are not going to get their act together in the short term (--or long term) so wants out at any cost. tongue out

I think it's more that if you were building a five year plan today from scratch, you wouldn't pick Alonso. It's like MSC in 1996.

Give them all a set of mud and snow tyres, tell 'em to man up and get out there.
If the storm hits just give the drivers the choice of an Evo or Impreza with wet weather tyres and let them get on with it!
Variable ride height due to downforce at different speeds, leading to aqua planing and the danger of the car becoming a 200mph water ski with no directional control are the big worries.

Like the road car alternative though if the F1 cars are unsuitable. Maybe a fleet of SLRs from the safety car supplier? smile
Back when men was men they had monsoon tyres and just got on with it, before having a pair of balls and knowing how to use them became politically incorrect and they filled the grid with fairies.

LMAO at ted in P1: "torro rosso front wing blah blah halfway house between the keel nose and gentlemans appendage which they've ran all season .. kvviat has the development nose and verstappen the old package.."

You could hear them all just about st themselves.
