Certainly is a confusing sport, the worst thing about f1 is that it poses more questions than it answers, and despite what people say it HAS been scripted at various times.Ron Dennis himself is on record as saying that prosts engines were hobbled in 1988, Honda loved Senna, but may have hated Prost winning the 87 title which Honda spent $ mega to win. I also found an old article about the 1996 Spanish Grand Prix, Schumacher had the spare car in a wet set up, the benefit of absolute no1 status, thus he cleared of in the race, everyone else's car was undriveable , with inevitable results.
Piquet won the 87 title driving a Williams Honda.
Apologies. I was of course referring to the 86 season when Prost grabbed it at the last race.

I've read that he had been using both his 'own' car and the spare earlier in the weekend and found the spare to be quicker so it was chosen for the race. During the warm up he found he was way behind the Williams so gambled on a full wet set up on that car with the results we all saw.

Nothing to stop any other team from using the spare nor any other driver from gambling on a full wet set up.

At the end of the race he had a 45s lead, down from 1m at the greatest, though he did come from behind. After 65 laps that would indicate that not all the other cars were undrivable, though clearly some of the drivers weren't able to manage theirs.
He slowed at the end of the race but still make the rest look silly, although with a dry set up in those conditions you were a sitting duck. Apparently quite apt for this thread Herbert started with wet set up but retired.

Ha Ha HA, I sense tension within the Sky team, Johnny on track parade... might have to get up that extra half hour to watch everyone ignore his questions especially Alonso winkwinkwink

That leaves over half his career and most of his success though doesn't it... And, recognised by way of factoring or simply noted?
You can't factor in team orders as we then enter in pretty murky waters of F1 intra-team politics. Gives the sport another dimension, I think, allowing the fan to inventconstruct their own alternate history. wink

You can't factor in team orders, when comparing drivers on a model which - trying to see past the puff - seems to be about who beat his team-mate the most?

They should make him eat his own hat live on TV. Herbert is an idiot and shown himself as playing the EJ role of troll-with-a-microphone.

Alonso has shown he is as competitive as ever. His reaction over the radio in quali said it all.

He's admitted he's still in pain so it seems he wanted a last minute OK to drive in Bahrain.

There's a hunger - debateable to what extent - and certainly a desire to take a car to its limits. We can only presume whether Alonso will grow tired of Honda's lack of competiveness as he seeks the elusive third title he so craves.

It seemed that the miserable, glass half empty, Williams 'reserve driver' Di Rests, was having a dig at Herbert.

Eta, Alonso has a chance to apologise to Herbert for his cheap jibe and thus kill two birds with one stone - show that he is above taking potshots at others and also to acknowledge that his actions were puerile. Will he do that? I really hope so, but fear that his ego will prevent that happening. Johnny has nothing to apologise for. He was stating his opinion. A lot of people, me included, think he was wrong, but he's entitled to that opinion and in his capacity as a Sky 'pundit' was always likely to make that opinion known.

I think somebody at SKY must have instructed Johnny to be more 'edgy'. The guy is acting like a knob all of a sudden..... he also looks rather stupid slagging off Button, Alonso and Raikkonen given that all three of them actually appear to be driving rather well at the moment!

Don't think I've ever heard Herbert criticise Button, ever.

He has to be the most negative, uncharismatic person in the paddock. Sport at this level is all about positive vibes man! I'm finding watching the FP coverage a challenge with his constant misery. What are SKY thinking?

It's tabloid TV, simple as that. C4 in contrast shows some good detail in their reporting and have a far stronger, more intelligent team who do not need to rely upon gimmicks (Apart from the Steve guy who I'm not sure about)

Well the much vaunted showdown with Herbert and Alonso was remarkably amicable as I thought it would be despite the efforts of Massa laugh

There are ways of making that point that don't make one appear to be a bully. Alonso failed totally in that regard.

Don't agree. Herbert gave his (contrived for money) opinion of Alonso, then Alonso gave his thoughts on Herbert. Herbert is a clown.

Yep. One writes his opinion on another racing driver and publishes it to all the world, for money, just like the tabloid journo he's sadly become. The other calls him out on his comments live on air. Hard to side with Johnny on this one.
