So, it turns out that Kaltenborn's parting shot with Sauber was to announce the Honda deal but not actually sign the contract.
Vasseur has been announced as Team Principal and Managing Director. He says his first task is to work out the engine for next year.

I've seen suggestions they are hunting for an engine deal and are willing to take a driver as part of that - so Leclerc / Giovinazzi (Ferrari) or Wehrlein (Merc)

Partly because Vettel has said he'll sign up as long as they sign up Kimi again. He wants Kimi as the second driver. I'd say he doesn't want to a teammate to regularly push him and there is an abundance of possibly available talent. In reality hes going nowhere, not to Merc and wont go back to Red Bull.
Alonso is looking for a drive where he can finish a race - Ferrari said no but he brings popularity.
Verstappen is looking to break contract and leave, given RBR won a race this is now unlikely.
LeClerc is walking away with F2 and will need a drive with a Ferrari engine but maybe not ready
Grosjean has a Ferrari engine and would be the logical replacement but would Vettel be ok with that? hes very outspoken and quick on his day. Leaves a seat open for LeClerc at Haas if it does.
