RIP Nicky Lauder
IdiotFor those who don't understand the reference, Liberty Media, i.e. people who own F1 referred to him as Nicky Lauder in one of their official posts. I'm not going to mention how one of the UK's radio stations called him an elderly David Beckham's fan.

Sorry, my sense of humour must be broken. Carry on.
EDIT: Bullitt, I'm sure you didn't mean any upset. Who possibly could. You were a little wide of the mark, but people say odd things under emotional circumstances. A line drawn here would be both good and respectful.

Can someone please edit the thread title to spell his name correctly!
Just to add, the word hero is much over used, especially now. But Niki was just that.
This man had heart, bravery and a side we rarely saw, especially about James, that he envied him, only the strongest men can admit things like that.
People talk about the accident, I prefer to talk about the driver, the engineer, the man who won despite coming back from retirement, the man who beat Prost at his own game, who shoved Ferrari's nose in it when Enzo employed Reutemann. The original professor.
The only shame is that he never got thing to work at Brabham, something I am sure annoyed him too.
They don;t make people like Niki Lauda anymore, ad they really should, he should be a template for success in life, business and sport, not some of the primadonna ass-hats now driving in F1.

Come on, if your pal Jeremy was to pass away and someone referred to him as Jezza you'd be offended? Why?
In all these years I'm still offended - well more, comical to be precise - that people still can't pronounce Ayrton correctly. Even when Murray Walker and others who followed tried to correct this it still wasn't pronounced correctly! As someone who is organising a funeral at the moment I can confirm dignity and respect have long gone .
I remember the F1 races of this time and his crash and the incredible short period of recovery before getting back in a car again.
Three World Championships could have easily been 5 or 6 or even more in the right circumstances.
He was always worth listening to on the F1 shows and was understanding of the driver battles within Mercedes.
RIP Niki Lauda and sincere condolences to his family.

He even made it into snoopy cartoons (well in Viz)
Seriously NSFW language.

For years my mom and uncle were on about this cartoon, but I was always told it was two parrots and the one would eventually go "Lauda! Deaf see you next tuesday". Seriously NSFW language.

Thanks for digging it out though, I'm going to show my mom at the weekend.
