When the German GP was split between Nürburgring GP-Strecke and the Hockenheimring.

Crazy race with horrendous weather. Murray Walker couldn't cope biggrin

On a serious note seeing the JCB's entering the gravel traps with cars still spinning off frown

Liuzzi was the driver that span off. He nearly collected the safety car, which sped out of the way to avoid him.

Excuse the blatant self promotion, but my book (which I plug in the PH Books thread ) has lots about F1 past . As I saw my first F1 car in action on 9 April 1971 , there's quite a bit ...

The man driving the car, a Tyrrell, was Jackie Stewart, who I interviewed in 2017 and met last Sunday at Silverstone. Quite a moment for me , if not for Sir JYS , because he probably shook hands with a thousand people at the Classic . Good to see and hear his 1969 Matra .

Slightly different from normal but the Group B era was my personal favourite ever.

This gentlemen's collection is unbelievable.

Interesting contemporary Alain Prost documentary. Was very much liked by the Anglo specialist press.

Yes, that was very interesting.

Maybe a bit like Alonso when it came to teams?

Gravel seems to do a good job of slowing the cars down though.

Whenever we're all discussing the greats on these pages, seems to me that Prost rarely features that much. He clearly was a great but for some reason, history seems to have dulled recognition of this I think.

Yes , people get hysterical about Senna , and the overrated Gilles Villeneuve (great to watch, but he was never going to calm down enough ) but of Prost , and Jackie Stewart you hear little . But both were absolutely masterful, and , just like Lauda , there was often a feeling of inevitabilty about their victories.

Just a humble opinion, I rate Prost first among very few equals - those being : Nuvolari, Rosemeyer, Fangio, Moss, Clark, Stewart, Lauda, Senna & perhaps (;) Hamilton. Chronological order.
Have limited myself to 10. At the genuinely elite level, they're difficult to separate.

That’s an exceptional bench mark/s for a driver to aspire to! Great post.

How refreshing to hear the 'older' drivers mentioned there. Thank you!

They stated gravel was poor as cars in the past would hit it and have a higher chance of flipping.

IMO their need's to be more gravel traps around circuits in slow to medium corners to stop drivers taking the p***

The quality as you can imagine is not great but surely F1 needs to have more camera shots like these.
