It has been almost thirty posts since Lewis Hamilton was mentioned in a thread that bears his name. If you want to discuss whether statues should be pulled down, kindly do it on a more relevant thread.

So - two costly mistakes last week at Austria (grid drop from quali and 5 seconds in the race)

Will he just accept Austria isn't one of his best tracks and take whatever points he can get, or will he come back all fired up?

Or will the options be taken away from him if the car is still fragile?
Thats because some dheads love to hijack threads with some utter ttish garbage..ie Pyramids etc.

On your first comment " The British army went into the major industrial companies such as the car industry and ran them to get them back up and running again. It's where a lot of their efficient systems came from"

Then now your are showing a document about One (VW) company being helped to get back to its feet. No the Brits didn't rebuild the german industry or use their efficient system (never heard of British efficiency until today) to rebuild their major industrial companies. The german efficiency is not British but German.
Let's not put all the eggs in one basket.

I don't know if I'd classify the defense against Albon as a mistake so much as a gamble.
I mostly agree (in fact I was shouting at the telly on Sunday when they announced the penalty). From the onboard footage from Lewis's car you could VERY clearly see two things - 1) Lewis didn't open the steering as he often does on the exit of a corner to defend his position (Nico Rosberg suffered a lot from this tactic) and 2) it was Alex Albon's rear wheel that hit Lewis's front wheel that caused his spin.

After calming down and reconsidering, I reckon Lewis's mistake was defending against a car that was going to pass him within the next lap or so anyway - Lewis was having to stay off the kerbs to preserve the gearbox and Alex was on much fresher (and softer) tyres - it was a case of 'when' not 'if' he was going to get past. Lewis should have realised this and settled for a podium, but that's an easy assertion from a comfy armchair - there's still a lot of racer in him that likes a bit of wheel-to-wheel dicing

So - I still don't think the penalty was deserved, as Lewis did nothing more than make Alex work for the place, but with the benefit of hindsight, he could have taken a view in terms of the race, rather than the place.

Yes that's a reasonable conclusion, I agree.

In terms of this weekends race, assuming they fixed, or even mitigated to an extent the gearbox sensor issue, then the two mercs should have no fear of any other car repeating the same sort of pressure. From Lewis's point of view, his only concern will likely be Bottas - and that 'race' will largely come down to the quali battle. If it rains during quali that will probably be something of a gift for Lewis..

Not at all, the british and French were actually very heavily involved in dismantling the german industry until 1950. Under pressure from the USA, they stopped. From then on, Germany became strong partly due to loans and huge employment of Turkish workforce. Nothing to do with GB.

That's great, good for you.

Are you an A-list celebrity and/or all-time great in an endeavour with an audience measured in hundreds of millions?

Nope, I’m a man that does a good job for lots of different clients. All of whom pay me well to do my job but I wouldn’t subject them to my views on lifestyle, politics or religion.

Well, it's great that we're all different then.

Someone in Hamilton's position has a platform and thinks he can do some good with it. Others stay silent all of their lives. There's room for everyone.

Regardless, A listers should keep their political opinions to themselves when at “work“. What they do in their private life is up to them but their opinion is no more valid than anyone else’s opinion.

That is between him and his employer I suspect. Very few have that platform. I can entirely see why some in that position use it for something they believe in. Hamilton has been through some pretty horrible racist stuff as a kid and even later on in F1. I can totally see how he'd take the chance to try to help raise awareness of racism and now does seem the time given the way it has come to the fore worldwide.

maybe write a strongly worded letter to his boss Toto Wolff ...& if that doesn't get you any joy, go over his head & try Ola Källenius

good luck.

I think that it is wonderful that a sportman has the guts to express his view on such matters. Through history many sportmen and women have done so and helped future generations to better opportunities.

Some people will not like it and that the way it is but generally those people have never been affected by inequality, racism, gender inequality and so on. I don't think that we should criticise them for their view as more than often it is due to lack of self experience in these matters.
