If he wants to be taken seriously as a pundit he should really drop this, very childish.

The time max lost was probably him charging the car for a hot lap
Have to agree. Five seconds behind with two laps to go? Drop back and recharge the battery for a go at fastest lap.

PH ‘experts’ strike again! rofl
I thought they were pushing Checo at that point to delta + 0.something seconds to create a gap?

I'm sure Max's engineer also had the calcs required to fit the lap in and backed Max off if required.

The point is there was a gap created and that was the extent of team influence on both drivers that were both already having their drive managed.

I’m sure Piastri is regretting moving to McLaren right now.
I don't think he is. At this point in his career the only metric that matters is performance against your team mate.

Beating Ocon wouldn't be regarded as particularly, outrageously special.

This weekend went very well for him Vs Norris and beating him over the season would much improve his future prospects compared to beating Ocon.

Haven’t read every post but during the latter stages of the race they gave GR the heads up that FA might be in for a penalty and to push.
What I’m not aware of is did they give the same message to LH as they would be aware if the penalty was for a infringement if the previous 5 sec penalty for FA it would be increased to 10 secs and that LH needed to get within 10 secs.
Or are MB so tactically/strategically inept it didn’t pass their collective minds to tell LH to push too. Either way a missed opportunity to maximise points…

I agree, since he joined the Sky team he's usually been very complimentary of Hamilton.

There was confusion over what the penalty was for though - it was thought the 5 secs wasn't served correctly under SC whereas it was a new 10s penalty for touching the car.

Nice to have a woman onboard the coverage that answers questions rather than asks basic ones on behalf of a dozy tv audience.
Now that controversy is over why does the jack man have to be so jacked up?
He would have to wait till they undid the wheelnuts before lifting the car so he has plenty of time to shove it in.
A test for Stroll Sr. Will he be preparing the concrete slippers and a trip out to sea?

Which of course reflects very well on him too as he went head to head with the guy he says is the best.

As Mike Krack says the rules say you cannot "work" on the car. Even if the jack was touching they were not doing working on the car.

Touching it is considered working on it. AM messed up there, what part of the 'Do not touch the car for 5 seconds' did the jack guy not understand??!! Idiot.

There you go, however the FIA have up to 25 min to deliver notification of a penalty, its been timed at 30 mins..

FIA eh!

First year its been policed, Hamilton had a 10 sec stop front and rear jacks in place and off the ground.

That’s the point I’m making, any doubts there was an infringement on FA serving the 5 sec penalty means there is a fair chance it will be increased to 10 seconds on post race review. Ergo MB strategy team should have been on it, what would they loose by making LH push a couple of 10ths in the last laps, nothing. The potential gain though was additional (gifted) championship points in a season where points are going to be hard won but rarely gifted.
The team missed a trick….

Reasonable to assume that the jacks were touching the car during Hamiltons penalty at Silverstone in 21 and was fine. So if 'working' isn't specifically defined somewhere than the FIA have an issue.

They applied exactly the same criteria as last race - touching the car means a penalty.

Just like Zhou got a penalty last year when they lifted his car - https://the-race.com/formula-1/miscommunication-le...

No, Ocon was actively working - the wing screws started being unwound 0.4 seconds too early.

Zhou's car was lifted - that is actively working.

Alonso was passive 'touching' - if that, and without a contact sensor can you conclusively say the jack touched the car?
