Will Buxton, via Twitter:

"...Alonso/Vettel seat swap being reported in Italy."

Yes, Alonso is unhappy with the performance of the car and Vettel is unhappy at being out performed by Danny.

Yes, Redbull could afford Alonso.

But what does Vettel get out of it, apart from being a Ferrari driver?

Highly doubtful this would happen. However if it were to happen I would say it is because Alonso is looking for a fast car NOW, where as Vettel might be happier to go to Ferrari where he will get clear #1 status and gradually build up the team and car around him, Like Schumacher did back in the day. Vettel has time on his side and Alonso really doesn't anymore.

Would be interesting to see it happen.

I would love to see it happen... then for Alonso to get mashed by Ricciardo as well.

There's a reason they call it the silly season wink

I'd be very surprised if there's any truth in this

I was under the impression that both teams were going to announce unchanged line-ups this weekend, followed by the same announcement from McLaren?

But hey ho...in this crazy world....

I'd be very surprised if there's any truth in it - it just seems to be a lot of supposition on top of rumours

I don't believe it. Even if both Ferrari and RB announced it, I'd have trouble giving it any credibility.

Mind you, Alonso and DR - that could be fun. Alonso has some previous with fast #2s. RB without Newey is not the most enticing prospect.

But Vettel to drive a dog? I can't see that.

Unless they have sold him the prospect of the new improved Ferrari team having a championship winner for 2015?

Bit like hamilton going to Mercedes in 2013 and into a poor car, but obviously knew good things were afoot for 2014

Has a move to Ferrari for Ross Brawn been ruled out, or are we assuming that he is permanently out of the game now?

The ability to negotiate his next contract whilst he still has his reputation might be one reason.

His contract is until end of 2015 and if Ricciardo is still spanking him in 2015 his ability to negotiate a decent contract - even if he is a 4 x WDC would surely be diminished.

Also seems RB are gathering behind Ricciardo for rest of season so when it comes to developing the car for next year who would it be for? Ricciardo or Vettel?

A move to Ferrari makes a lot of sense.

Ferrari are poor right now and you have to assume the overall direction for them in the coming years would be to improve. Vettel moving to a sleeping giant gives him the time to recover form and have a team and car built around him ala Schumacher.

So Vettel and Perez at Ferrari for 2015? I believe Perez signed a 1 year deal with Force India.

I don't see a massive change, for example Vettle and Alonso but Perez would fit the bill as a number 2 over at Ferrari while Bianchi gets the FI seat (paid for), and then gathers lots of good data for the Ferrari team...

Surely Alonso just needs to wait for Hamilton to walk from Mercedes at the end of the season?
