I don't think he needs to take people over from one team to another to be effective at his role, but I do tend to agree that history tells us that the British influence at Ferrari is either wasted or needs to be totally accepted 100%, as it was during the MS years of dominance - also Ferrari's last period of success.

They obviously want to win but that will require the natives working with the British immigrants biggrin
Lots of that happened already. John Lockwood head of composites for instance
It'll be very interesting to see the extent of talent drawn towards Ferrari as a result of the Newey rumours - and tbh I assume that for those that work in F1 it's more of an open secret than a rumour these days, although of course it 'could' all be fake news! I just doubt that very much.

Newey aside, LH is obviously a big draw for many in the sport and also Ferrari are a good bet at a strong PU for the new regs, so it starts to look like a perfect storm could be brewing at Maranello, all the right ingredients could easily end up at the one team.

Thanks guys.

You know you've made it when you take your 250 out to finish spec'ing your new 90ft sailing yacht.

With the soundtrack, this does it more justice. Not Newey's, and an earlier version(?), but hey...

Lots of Brits there, more than you'd think, been like this since Ross and Rory's days

UK head hunter keeps tabs on all senior positions in all UK teams and picks off the brave ones brave enough for an adventure

Reality is, the inside is nothing like potrayed by the press and people who think they know

Ferrari needs cross pollination, all teams do, if not they get left behind, because of Ferrari's geographical location attracting new UK worker bee's with extensive F1 experience is harder for them than for UK teams

I keep reading comments about Newey not leaving the UK because of family commitments ...i mean how many family commitments does a 65yo man have?

& it's not like many folks of that age aren't thinking about relocating to a sunnier climate for their latter years (i know i am & im not 65 or a multi-millionaire)

it was something he mentioned many years ago when his kids were young, they are all of course adults now I believe he spends alot of his time in South Africa now anyway.

I think this relates more to a passage in his autobiography where an earlier opportunity to work with Ferrari was turned down because of the travel, younger kids etc. I doubt that is a stumbling block these days with grown up offspring and I'm sure AN can share his drawing board over MS teams to avoid too much travel wink

I don't give any weight to comments about him wanting to stay at home or getting to a certain age etc. He hasn't built a super yacht in order to spend his days in Blighty.

And like virtually all people at retirement age, the dream is travelling, spending time in the sun and enjoying one's passions. His passion is building and racing cars so... doesn't really need to retire to tick the above boxes does he? All said and done he'll likely work no more than 1-2 days a week and obviously on his own terms including where he's based and how many races he attends etc.

I'm sure he won't see it as an afront to his comfortable lifestyle to spend some time in Italy and continue to design car, on his terms, in his way.

Having older children usually brings Grandchildren.

Unknown if he has any, but his oldest children are 40 or thereabouts so one assumes if they're not around then they won't be far off.

Perhaps he doesn't want to be too far from that extended family.

It's a 2-2.5 hour flight. Most grandparents that live down the road from their grand kids won't see them more often than AN easily could even if he spent a reasonable amount of time in Maranello.

Also guessing he didn't build the Yacht out of a desire to stay at home.

Late convert to the gloriousness of old ferraris (must be an age thing) - but by gosh that is rather nice.

This seems like one of those cases of manifeting something into existence. Normally its the usual
selfish stuff from layabouts like, I want to be rich.
This ferrari situation looks like it will probably happen at some stage. Who will be first for crediting themselves on magically making it happen?
