So here’s a question to consider as we get closer to the event we’ve all been waiting for …… JB’s (one-off) return to F1.

As JB prepares for this race in Monaco what do you think he’s thinking? How will he motivate himself?
What expectations is he likely to have, and what is he targeting? - Finish the race? Grab a point or 2? Pray for rain and go for a strong result?

Given the current pathetic situation at McHonda, how will it all end?

Is this just one big mistake and should he have just said: “fk it, I’m not trundling around in a stbox which probably won’t even last the race distance?”

Personally I’d love to see him on the podium but sadly that’s a pipe dream in a McLaren right now.

Or should we be reading more into this, will FA FO to the States for a drive in another series if he does well at the Indy 500, and will JB step back into a full-time seat for the remainder of the year?

I tend to agree he'll be a DNF..... hence my post as I was wondering how a top driver and WDC gets motivated for such a situation, it must be de-motivating for him????

He could well be pissed before the race this time just to make it exciting for himself.
There's an idea smile

Alonso said that JB isn't exactly over the moon to be returning and took a bit of persuading to take up the offer. I reckon points are possible, would be ironic if it's Button that gets McLaren off the bottom of the constructors Championship.
It certainly would smile

I think the question the OP hints at here s "is JB better, or a more canny driver than Fernando?" Can he achieve the impossible?

Absolutely not! I think the real question is "Can Fernandy win the Indy 500?"

This prospect has me wondering how I can watch the race? Can Fernando really do it?

I think we know that whoever wins pole at Monaco, will probably win the race. Fernando could qualify 8th- 10th and still have a great chance of crossing the finishing line first.

F1 lacks that uncertainty. If you are a fan of Ocon, or the Hulk, you really need to believe that your favourite driver just might win.

As things stand, we all know that, just like JB, they are in the wrong car. Not being in a non-works can makes them also rans from when the lights go out.
Well rdjohn a few things were going through my mind, actually when I wrote the thread I wanted to say "JB can win this and upset Alonso (by winning a race Alonso chose not to drive in)" or something equally stupid smile

You're right though about Alonso, it may have wider implications (I think you may be thinking the same thing??) - if he has a strong result (or wins) who's to say he won't walk away from Macca (mid season) as some people have suggested from time to time? In this case to take on a drive States-side.
