Good morning/afternoon/evening I have just put a cheque in my bank account from Her Majesties Revenue and Customs for overpaid Tax three and four years ago. This means I have have £750 to buy a classic. I'd prefer something tax exempt as I'd like to avoid the DVLA as much as possible. I love MGB's but also really like pop up lights and Fiats so the X-1/9 is in my cross hairs as well. I don't mind doing work on cars either so a worth while "project" can be considered as well.
So pre-72, pop up lights or interesting.
Happy hunting.
All suggestions appreciated.
P.S I don't like the "dub scene" lot; so no Beetles please.

Oh by the way I can weld and have very understanding (well they gave up moaning years ago) neighbors.
This is on my watch list at the moment...

That Rover 2200 is in my neck of the woods and you've found my old TR40! Small world. I took it as a part exchange against my Mini Cooper because I wanted the V8 for my B Gt but sold it to RobSport instead as it was so rare. Ended up fitting an S14 200sx engine and bits to the B instead.
I've already asked the chap how much it's cost to transport the X-1/9.

924 is a good shout. VW van parts so cheap to maintain.I prefer the 13B...

...to the 12A. Less hardtop MX5 looking and more reliable.

The thing I've found is that it's more a case of what's available, rather than what you want. How about this?

Galvanized chassis and GRP body. What's rust again? Ford V6 with a carb' so a 302 should be a straight(ish) swap and brake/suspension upgrades from the parts bin. http://retrorides.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=FS...
Very good find.

Mk1 MX5 - newer, but should find one for under a grand
I've had a Eunos back when they were still hair dressers cars. Black with red leather and speakers in the headrests. I used to like driving up to people is "better" cars and run rings around them. Too many people know how good they are now to get a real bargain.mig25_foxbat2003 said:

FWD three-wheeler? Mental, that'd be like reversing a Robin everywhere!Hugo a Gogo said:
go on then, which parts off a VW van fit a 924?
here's a clue - not many
Oil filter, spark plugs and a couple of other bits I think. here's a clue - not many
Sorry I was joking and forgot to put a smiley face at the end. Come to think of it the spark plugs are different as well.
The biggest problem with the 924 (apart from rust) is 944s are just as cheap and in my opinion a much better car.

Similar to the 12A vs 13B RX7 suggestion earlier.
This is going to skyrocket out of budget but I'm the current highest bidder...

I know they're crap, slow, thirsty, heavy, rust buckets with the biggest cramped interior ever made. The original Audi A7 then. But unlike the A7; they're also just brilliant. My neighbor had one when I was little, can't remember it ever being on the road but he used to just rev the engine a couple of times a month and upset everyone.
I wonder if "Smith and Deakin" still do the TWR panels?

That is gorgeous!
Up the budget a bit, buy a nice little Allegro so I can buy that?
Actually, I'm not too fond of the idea of making my mother cry again!

Nice original car...

...apart from the after market wheels, leather seat covers, chrome bumper conversion, 74 grille and ST front valance.
Very nice though and should go way over budget.

Cappuccino's out on the grounds of my being six two. Had a go in and and it was a hoot but the windscreen top got in the way.
