Any guesses as to what I'll get...
Discussion
as a 'like for like' car supplied as part of an insurance claim whilst my car is being repaired.
Its a Mk6 GTD - but I doubt they (coming from Avis) will keep GTD's in their fleet. So... GTI, or 2.0 TDI (better not be).... or an Audi/BMW of some sort?
As an aside.... First claim I've ever made with a 'fully comp at fault' third party. The amount of money being squeezed out of it by my insurer is unbelievable.

You mean like the same 2.0tdi in your car (give or take the 30bhp tweak) - hardly the end of the world is it?Edited by blambert on Monday 25th July 16:04
I would say that would be 'like for like' and I would also think they have plenty of them knocking about.
^^^ alternatively & on the proviso that this is being run through a Credit Hire Company or similar, you can always pay out the £75+ per day that such a car will cost from your own pocket & then reclaim it yourself as an Uninsured loss ?
Having been involved in the Insurance Industry for longer than I care to remember, I often wonder what Claimants did for alternative transportion prior to Credit Hire..........& then I remember. They either used public transport or made do with the most bog standard (read cheapest) hire car they could get there hands on.

Last time i rented a car and requested a "diesel Mondeo or similar" i was given a Seat Altea 4 2.0T petrol. Not really that similar.
I hired an E Class or 'equivalent' from Avis and they turned up in a Nissan note 'cos it was all they had that was automatic like the E Class'. I refused to let them leave it on my drive.blambert said:

Who are you with? I had some pratt take the rear offside off my E class coupe a couple of weeks ago, currently in a hire B class, so I suppose they would say it's Mercedes for Mercedes!Edited by blambert on Monday 25th July 16:04
'though frankly I ain't that bothered, 4 wheels and gets me from A to B and a reasonable size will do 'til I get mine back.

My moneys on a diesel Astra, a new shape Astra if your lucky.
Frankly, if my car is off the road for repairs I'm happy just having a car to get from a to b in. Who cares if its not as quick or well spec'd as the car being repaired. I'd expect to get a similar sized car but nothing more.

Really starting to dislike people who use AMCs for like-for-like courtesy cars. I could explain why but I've just seen a cake I need to eat.
I called up our broker (company car) and reported the claim and this afternoon have had calls from the bodyshop, ins company, some solictors and a credit hire company. Didn't even occur to me to ask for a car (despite it being a ball ache to sort out lifts and borrowing vans), but I will take one if it's offered.Apparently the GTD is a 'class S6' which means I'll get a Laguna, Vectra, GTI? (he said 'your car' but kept calling it a GTI) or Impreza.
Main reason for asking is I need to get 2 cellos in the car and to Cornwall at the weekend, has to be of similar size.

Were they giving you it cheap, or were they trying to charge E-Class money for a Nissan Note?
Or did you not even let them get that far into the conversation?
They were charging 'premium' hire so yes I was pissed off. Or did you not even let them get that far into the conversation?
They returned later with a '1 series' which was almost as bad - massive damage down one side - completely crushed flat rear wheelarch and deep gouges that he tried to describe as 'small scratch' on the paperwork. Wasn't falling for that.

So you have a 2.0 diesel golf, but you will be unhappy if they give you a 2.0 diesel golf as a courtesy car?
Yeah I don't know why that was such a problem to me initially.Though I am gonna laugh if they turn up at the body shop in a Corsa and I'm stood there with my two Cellos and a suitcase.
