The misunderstanding of the cost of modern cars
Discussion
Why oh why do you constantly see "I'd never pay that for X", do people not realise how expensive cars have become?
Gone are the days of £15k buying you a decent hatch and £18-20k getting you the hotter model etc.
I know it's a st rant, but it's stupid to see the same comments spat out over and over again.
New cars are expensive. There.

Saw an 05 Hyundai Sonata go through auction today at £2550. It had 31k and was immaculate with all options.
OK, its a st car, bought by people who don't care about cars.
People like my uncle perhaps, who is about to pay £17k on a Focus to do 5k per year.
The Focus does 45mpg compared to the Hyundai 32mpg though.
£2550! Nearly pulled the trigger myself.

Given that I only posted in the Polo R discussion about 30 minutes ago, about how laughably overpriced it was then I guess I am one of these people. And just as you're standing by your comment, I'll stand by my comment.
It is laughably overpriced.
What kind of production volumes has VW targeted? It is laughably overpriced.

They look alot less expensive than that on the monthlies, mind
Nail meet head. The reason prices are rising is because a lot more people can afford them through finance. What's the difference between a £20k and a £25k nowadays? £50 a month?

You should buy a scooter instead, they're dirt cheap new
Already got a 45mpg bike. Chinese scooter? Nah..At the bottom end of the market you can get a brand new Panda for the first year depreciation of a top of the range golf.
Now in my book a golf isn't hugely different to a panda
Then look at the price of a caterham and compare it to a top of the range golf and tell me a golf is good value for money as a performance car
