I always liked the look of single wipers. As seen on touring cars of the 90s, and I'm sure some Mercs had them. Where did they go? Does anything use them now?

And I don't mean Vauxhall Novas with one removed(which I may or may not have done at one time hehe )

Some of the micro-minis, e.g. the 107, Aygo & the baby Audi have single wipers, but they tend to wipe from the side rather than the centre.

I hate single wipers - the ZX seems to kill front wiper blades at more than twice the rate you'd expect for a double-blade effort, plus the blades are enormous!!

My first car, A Citroen AX had a single wiper.

Once fell off in heavy rain on the M25, which was nice. eek

My 1998 X308 has a single wiper, as does the 2002 Merc E430... two single wiper cars on the drive smile

They both work very well

My brother's old 190 cosworth wiper was clever. It would push further out when it got to the top corners so it would cover more of the windscreen. Clever but simple bit of thinking!

The previous shape Clio (2000-2006) did that too, despite having 2 wipers. Great idea.

I forgot, my old BX used to have one. also had the washers built into the wipers, which worked well.

Not mine pictured btw, but it is a PHers I believe. smile

My old C180 Merc used to do this too. Very impressive; when on the fastest setting it looked pretty manic, and the mechanism was obviously well put together, that it didn't break at such speeds!

I had 2 Fiat Unos back in the day, thought it was cool only having one wiper, the only other car I remember at the time was some model of Merc also having a single wiper.

Same here - Jag X300 and S1 Elise, both with single wipers. I'd never noticed it on the Jags before I bought mine and it rained for the first time!

Yep my 190 cosworth only has one wiper - works well in the rain but ultimately pointless as its a far more complex system than a 2 blade set up and no more effective - and don't think its cheaper to fit one blade - the single blade costs more than a set of two for my V70 - looks cool in an eightiestastic sort of way though

(not my car before you ask! - mines a 2.3 not a 2.5)
