So, apparently here in the South East we have a hosepipe ban on the way.

How do we clean our cars if we're not allowed to use the hose?

Not the end of the world.. But as we're on PH, we enjoy cars.. Clean cars. Weekends are for cleaning cars.

How long do these bans usually go on for?

confused You don't need to clean your windows, but you do it anyway, don't you? Bit of a silly thing to say on a motoring enthusiast's website, don't you think?

Anyway, back to the subject in hand. Have you got a garage or somewhere you can run a pipe over your car without being noticed (or do your neighbours really care?). If not, stick a shower head on your (painted white) hosepipe, nothing saying you can't give your car a shower! biggrin

Last time it was bandied about, car washing was banned. However there was also a requirement to clean safety and legal elements clean which meant lights, windows & number plates and using tap water was permitted for doing this

Well yes, the reason why I said it is because if he really wanted it clean, he would use a bucket ect, but mainly because the bans don't last too long (normally)

If it means that much to you just buy a load of distilled water, doesn't cost much.

I'm going to back out gracefully here haha
I admit to cleaning mine on a weekly basis, but I don't mind if I can't for a while.
Anyway, must save grace so will go to the kitchen to cook bacon.

So would a ban put all the Polish car cleaning places up sh*t creek or do they get some exemptions as it's their business?

Apologies if I sounded harsh, I'm not particularly coherent tonight! I think I missed the point of your post and I appreciate your lack of rising to my reply smile let's draw a line under this thread!

I think that's a bit harsh, it is a valid response to your quandary, just don't wash it until the ban ends. Or as suggested, bucket of water, or even albanian car wash or a normal car wash.

Detailing world is that way ---> tongue out

Was a sarcastic reply.. Whats the need?

It's a genuine question, we're on a motoring forum.. Thus we surely must enjoy keeping the things we spend our money on in good condition?

So a hosepipe ban.. Whats the usual length of them? Are we talking weeks or is it months?

Last time we had a ban down here in Sussex IIRC it lasted nearly a year.

Car wash companies were OK as they were running a business, it was only really aimed at domestic households it was called a hosepipe ban. We could only use a hose to clean a patio, fill a swimming pool or fill a water butt, we could not use it for washing cars or watering the garden.

Fingers crossed for this year
